MR roof??

The 05 MR came with a lighter aluminum roof, correct? Would there be any advantage to replacing the roof from an 04 RS to try and shed some weight up high?

nope, you'd prob just worsen the structural rigidity of the roof by taking it off...

The RS doesn't come with the aluminum roof? I keep forgetting what it does and doesn't have.

The Carbon Fiber roof might actually be heavier than the aluminum...I figure if that's true about the hood it's probably true about the roof as well

It's not always true on the roof - only the cheap hoods with the wrong weave are heavier. There are actually some nice CF hoods that weigh less than stock.

Wet or dry fiber...I bet it's just Dry...and that's costs a hell of lot

Yeah, it's a difference between wet and dry, but I don't pay attention enough to know which is which.

i hate dumb threads like this. just common sense would tell u not to mess with the roof. in the rare case that his car was so track ready with all the other track and engine mods that he was at this point he would already know the answer to this question. he just had a dumb thought and decided to throw it on here.

it doesn't matter why he wants to know, he just wants to know. So let people ask their questions and if you have no answers to give don't bother posting man.

MR and RS have the same aluminum roof. No benefit one over the other. Dry carbon is pre-impregnated with resin, one sheet layered on top of another and autoclaved in a vacuum. Wet carbon is usually a sheet of carbon laid over a base (fiberglass or otherwise) and covered in resin/clear coat. Dry carbon has a much higher overall strength and much lighter weight. AMS's roof is dry carbon. /thread.
