15,000 mile service not at dealership

I can't justify spending $300 for it. I called a local auto shop, $20 for oil change, $10 for tire rotation, $58 for transfercase fluid change. And they do their 25 point check (brakes, fluids, tire pressure, etc...)...and 10% off for using their credit card which I have.

I just don't want them to give me all hell about issues. And I rather not do the stuff myself. So pretty much I would just need to save a receipt on things right? Anything else you guys recommend getting done now?

15k is nothing major. I do believe that the tranny fluid, rear end, center, and coolant are due at 30k. And the stealership is a rip off

Definitely don't do the stealership. If you don't want to do it yourself, sounds like your local shop can cover everything for a reasonable price. Just show them what's part of the 15K service. Then save the receipt and you'll be fine.

I agree thats a rip off. 15000 doesnt require much besides oil, rotate, air filter if u have stock filter.

yeah i have to check the manual again, I don't remember what it says for 15K. I was gonna get the oil change and tire rotation and clean the cone filter and then also was gonna get the trans case fluid. Not sure what else though...those were what I had planned, and it is gonna run like $100 bux which is not bad

Yeah, I'd be questioning every fluid they put in there and get something in writing so when your engine blows up after you transmission eats itself you can hold them responsible.

You spent the money on the Evo, spend enough money on the service to know its being done right.

If you don't want to do it, I would just buy all the recomended fluids and take them with the car and watch the guy do the work.

Be carefull! You're not driving a F-150 truck.

You must use the correct fluids (see below) or you car will have really big repair bills! Much bigger then the $300 the stealership wants for 15k maintenance.

Search and learn about...

Tranny 5 speed - GL4 70-80 W Oils
Tranny 6 speed - Why it needs Mitsubishi DiaQueen Super Multiweight (GL4 SAE 75-85W)

Differentials (LSDs) - Why it needs Mitsubishi DiaQueen GL5 SAE 90W

1ST. $20 will not even buy the oil for your car let alone the filter and labor for the change, shop supplies.

2nd. When they do your $10 tire rotation make sure they do not chip your brembos, a factory trained Mitsu tech knows not to do this because they received a TSB from Mitsu warning them of it.

3rd. If they do not use the correct transmision fluid you will have problems. You T-case will start off as a whine then it will be toast. I only use Mistu OEM fluid.

my dealership is also mod friendly to certain mods (intake, gauges, TBE) so would this potentially keep me on good terms to go with them? Heck, at least i get a free rental vehicle out of it if i went there lol

I've had the T-case whine since I bought my car. It's at 20k now. Should I be concerned?

Ouch $58 for TC fluid change (the car's already up on the lift). I've got a guy that does fuids for me for $20 each, with the exception of a $15 oil change (I bring my own fluids, filter, etc). The best I ever managed was trans axle, TC, and rear dif for $40 Unless you've been driving pretty hard, I don't think you're due for a TC change yet, are you. Maybe it's a '05 thing (where Mitsu Stealerships are looking to increase their profits).

Try to find the shadiest place you can, and get some quotes....

BTW! you want to put RedLine "Heavy Duty" Shockproof in the TC

I would also make sure the dealer uses the correct fluids.

DiaQueen is a generic name... some dealer techs have used LSD oil in the tranny and visa versa.
