AC Not COld Anymore?????

ok here the situation my 2006 Evo 9 MR has had cold AC since the day i bought the car in February of 2006 up until a recent track event where the only thing different that i had done to the car was i put on 275/40/17 r compounds drove the car half day ( because i was losing boost and couldn't find out why until i got home and notice one of my intercooler coupling had a huge tear in it) but from that day on the AC doesn't work............ i am thinking that i need to have more freon put into the car but was wondering if anyone else had the same problem

I would look to see if something snagged the line off of the ac condensor. It hangs under the car right by the lower ic pipe. If you dont have a undertray it is possible

I had the same symptom, so when I went to my next free scheduled maintenance at Mitsu, I had them take a look. They found that my wiring had been melted by coming in contact with my aftermarket radiator. They replaced the wiring under warranty, and it's worked ever since. You may not have an aftermarket radiator, but it's still worth looking at...

if there was a tear in the intercooler coupling, its possible there cold be a hole in the condensor or somwhere to leak freon...do u know how the tear happened?maybe the samething that caused the tear caused the freon to leak?hmm..maybe?

yeah the ac line hang low but i have a apr splitter but i check the lines to make sure they had no rips or damage at all.

warr: that sounds interesting i am going to check for that today is it the electric lines coming of the condenser ???

yeah the intercooler coupling was just a single ply so it wasnt strong at all and it looks like it was from pulling the piping on and off several times so i upgraded to a 4 ply coupling

But if you just need a recharge..theres usually a reason....like a leak so check for that first. Then recharge it. Sometimes its a stupid o-ring. But your car is pretty new so it may be like the other guys said...wiring...something of that nature.

ok everyone found out what was wrong it seems like the lower lines was rubbing up against the condenser pulley and the hose finally gave so word of advice to all evo owners make sure that no hose are touching the pulley or you will be out $300 bucks man that sucks and not covered under warranty because it was a physical damage

ouch that sucks, but a good heads up for other evo owners on the board and at least you'll stay cool in the Cali heat now.

Personally I don't think my air has ever been that cold it takes seemingly longer than it should before the car gets cold enough oh and there's noticeable differences in the fan speeds at times too, but mostly from idle to moving Probably b/c I usually just start rolling instead of giving it gas before letting the clutch out
