Expected Price Drop?
In this case, the Evo X may both be new and the next best thing, but it's also going to be in a different price bracket, which will make the 03-06 USDM Evos very valuable, imo.
they already are - that's deppreciation.
that's certainly a bold statement without justification.

The Evo X will be an entirely different machine. It's designed this time around to not be so raw and edgy. I'm sure that there will still be consumers looking for well taken care off pre-Evo X's to modify.
I have had a lot of rare cars over the years including several Hemi Cuda's and as of now I have my 04 RS on jackstands with less then 6k on it just to see what the market does for the next ten years.
I love the Evo so much I just bought a nicly modded 9 to go with the 8.
As a well known collector once said "think of the car that all the high school kids dream about now and hold onto it for 30 years" thats what will be going for top $$ then.

I would buy a NEW one now for invoice or lower while you still have the chance, if you still have the chance. I would avoid any used Evo like the plague. If you have to buy used, then I'd get a used IX now instead of waiting for the X to release, because it will be out of the price range of most normal Evo owners, and the market will get saturated with Honda noobs who are trying to ****** up 20k used Evos.
I'd love to purchase a brand new one, but I really don't know if I can justify the extra cash to my significant other. If it's really worth buying a brand new one then I could probably hold out for a while longer and save up some more $$$
Well, you have quite a dilemma then, because:
1) A used IX will cost less, but the risk is much higher, and the potential for many thousands being thrown towards repairs is very real. You could end up paying more for the used one than for a new one.
2) if you wait until you save more money, then the supply of new IXs will have dwindled further and perhaps raised the price back up to near MSRP as opposed to at or below invoice. The time spent saving would be a waste.

www.southcoastmitsubishi.com is I believe selling IX's for a little more than MSRP..
i think it really depends on the dealer you go to. if they are selling well, then the price is pretty firm. i was able to get a new 2006 MR SE for 34.5k last week. they told me it was about 1k less than invoice. i don't know if that is true, but i feel it was a pretty good deal at the moment.
ideally, i would wait for a evo x, but my car got stolen so i chose to buy the evo 9 MR SE.
