Is buying a modded evo cheating
Hey guys. What's up?
I am still debating on wether or not to trade in my '03 OZ on an evo. I love my car. It's good on gas, cheap on insurance and almost paid off. i love running local auto-x events with it and i have some great mods planned for the fall.
Trouble is - i love the evo. I've wanted one ever since it came out and i was maybe looking to buy one when i get home instead of buying more parts. I was wondering.... if i buy an already modded evo is considered cheating because I didn't build it myself? A friend turned me on to a great modded car site and they have some awesome looking cars there.
Good point - someone else has already done the work for you
Bad point - you don't get the satisfaction of seeing your creation grow.
Thoughts ?

i would think you would get a better deal buying one that is already modded based on price, only thing is you might not want some of the brands chosen for the build.....by the way...GO STEELERS!!!
yeah if you want a modded car...be ready to pay for some repairs...because it was probably beat on like there was no tomorrow. ^_^
even stock evos get beat on...thats just my $.02

you never no wut ur gona get outta of a already modded car... it could blow up rite away...i think u should build ur own and watch it grow like u said... my friend but a modded apex siver evo 8 from a well known dealer ship here in MD called Jones Junction...the evo blew up the 2 day he had it...it had metal shavings in the oil so he took it bac and the gave him a brand new 07 sti
You have to be VERY careful buying a modded car. I would only do it from someone I knew very well. I just sold my 10 yr old Nissan that was modded to hell, but I did everything right, proper warm-up/cool-down, change fluids often, other maintaince, etc. Paint is still perfect too. BUT, the majority of 'modded' cars are poorly done and abused. There are some good ones out there... but it takes some searching.
I purchased a used one that was already modded with stage 1 items and wheels. Seemed like a good bang for the buck. Plus this way I was able to use the extra money to take the car to the next level.

Ive always looked at it two ways:
1. you can get a better deal on the overall price and assuming everything is done right a modded evo is, well, a modded evo!!!
2. MODS = Most Obviously Driven Spiritedly. Im pretty sure people mod to go faster, but you cant if you dont go WOT, so most likely its been driven somewhat hard.
FWIW id stay away from higher mileage (above 30k) modded evos. Most will say all the mods are recent, but its hard to tell. However if you spot a cleanly modded evo with top of the line parts that can be vouched for by other forum users, its probably a good deal.
There are more detailed ways of looking at how a car was driven (tranny/clutch mods) tire wear per mileage, ANY funny noises or clunking or smells, excessive front lip debris (high speed runs), etc. Get a mechanic to help you with that.
Im actually looking for an evo now too. My search is for a stock, lower mileage 05 for mid 20's. Itl take a little while but ill find one. I plan on just doing bolt ons to get near mid 300's whp. which is very possible with the 10.5 hotside, active diff and MIVEC!
Good luck man!

finacially it is a good decision....evo parts are expensive as hell
+1, you take a big risk when you buy any type of modded car; actually you take a risk when you buy any car used (stock or not).
i just found the the deal you can thank me later
