Any Evo VI's owners?
Any Evo VI's owners?
I'm just curious on what you think of them. I was reading up on Evo's
and i noticed the Evo VI is pretty damn good. The Tommi Maiken version
has a better feel than the Evo IX.. well in what many people said. I know
you can't get one in the US. but I was curious on any set ups on this car..
Evo 9? or Evo 6? what do you think

LoL yeah. Actually I was. I looked it up on youtube and the Evo VI Vs. the IX. from Top Gear i think it showed some handling with both of them. I cant seem to get the VI out my mind after thinking about how good that car can be. About 8 years old or so and is a beast XD

yeah haha my bad was from Fifth xD Yeah i seen that before. But I still am doing some research before buying my next car. I enjoy the Evo's otherwise i wouldnt be studying this forum. I just want to see what's worth buying =D
yeah those some pretty beasty Evo's I was actually considering an an VIII but i just want to check all the possibilities. I want to make a wise investment xD Takes time to build up an Evo. I like to do as much as i can all on my own.
The Old Evos are fun and awesome but I want a newer one. I wish I had the 6 1/2 though. Best one ever made. I think. I would get a newer one maybe one with a warranty and parts are easer to get and find when something brakes. The older ones you have to find stuff from Japan and try matching them up with Evo parts here. I think you can get the VI in the US pritty ease if it is LHD. RHD kind of sets of a flag and they have to check paper work exc... Just get a Newer one.
I've looked into importing a VI recently and just comparing the numbers it would be cheaper to buy a used '03 or even a used '04-'05 than importing a VI. I've contacted the DOT, EPA, and the dealership in Tokyo about this and I was simply blown away at the cost of doing this kind of business by yourself. The car itself is only $6,000 USD and even after freight+insurance it only came to a little over $7500 (IF I remember correctly). Duties are about 2.5% on the dollar I believe and according to the DOT the vehicle is not allowed to be imported in its stock form from Japan. You would essentially need someone to come in and probably install crash bars in the front and rear, plus whatever else the DOT needs you to have to be compliant.
Then you get the pleasure of dealing with the EPA. Depending on what condition the cars in you might just need to install a new CAT and OBD2 sensor. If the car was modified in Japan you might have a whole different set of problems. Unless you have connections with certified mechanics whom have dealt with this type of thing before and people at the docks you're not going to come out cheap. Now, of course, all this would only matter if you're on a budget. Otherwise, invest in an '03 for $20k or less.
EDIT: This VI was a '96 RHD.
