Take these precautions:
- Make sure the car is as level as possible. The ensures proper draining and filling.
- Get a hand pump for the fluid. You have to fill the fluids from the side and you will not easily be able to pour them. With a pump you can fill from 90º.
- If you don't use OE fluids, be sure that the replacement fluids are correctly rated for the application. For instance, the 6-speed transmission used GL4 fluid ... use only GL4 rated replacement fluid, even if the weight is the same.
In my 03 the tranny , rear diff and tcase are eith 17mm or 24mm bolts. I know on the 6 speed tranny only the tranny uses allen keys. Are the IX's different?

Since we're on maintainance, what brands of fluids are you guys using? Mitsu or others. I have to do my fluids and though Royal Purple sycromesh for the gear box...but i heard I can't fill the whole tranny with that stuff.

They are likely not different and I am simply wrong. Thanks for the correction.

Just hit 7500 and did all my driveline fluids. Diaqueen in the TC and Rear Diff! I put 3 qts of Redline MT-90 in the trans and man what a difference shifts are smooth and no crunch (5sp) this will help you guys with the MR 6sp out. The only metal I found on the drain plugs was from the tranny and it was covered in fine metal shards. Change out the stock fluid when you get a chance. MT-90 FTW!

There is no right or wrong change interval unless you are racing or beating on the car and using the factory change interval which is too long for my liking. Most recommend diaqueen LSD for the transfer case and rear diff and that is what I have been using. I like BG II synthetic GL-4 for the gearbox. Shifts really nice. Change the engine around 3-4k with Mobil 1 and change the gearbox, rear diff, and transfer case every 15K. These are the intervals that I feel comfortable using. As for the timing belt I would go 60K on stock and even 100K on an aftermarket heavy duty belt.
