evo8 ecu
evo8 ecu
i bought used 03 evo8 gsr, i only have mbc and am opening 1.2bar. and i feel the car is slow.. i was wondering how can i know if the ecu is for my evo or its original ecu has been replaced! as i recall that if someone opens 1.8 bar on stock ecu at high gears it should cut fuel and sometimes turns off but mine didnt!
ps. i was regulating the mbc knob when i hit 1.8bar.
this made me think probably the car is slow bec of its ecu!!
so any input guys???

lol man, if the ecu is changed from the original one, your car wont even start cuz it aint an evo ecu ..
and damn 1.8 Bar = 26 PSI, is tooo much on stock turbo, lucky you didnt harm your turbo or engine , dont do that, since you are on pump gas ...
just get a Reflash map from Mellon Tunning ... Wont cost you much man ...
Tactrix cable = $80
download ecuflash for free, and misulogger for free ...and send the map to Mellon and he'll do you magic

and what about the car at that high boost?shouldnt the ecu stop the car or something?
The Evo ECU can be reprogrammed. The simple version is that anyone can download the code in their ECU, change some stuff with the right software, and re-flash the ECU with the changed code.
For some info look into the Evo Engine Management / Tuning Forums forums here and dig into the ECU Flash section.

Dude, what are you talking about? We don't change ECUs - we just reprogram them. There's no way you'd ever be running 1.8 bar (~27psi) unless you were running race gas or alky/meth injection. Plus, the ECU doesn't determine your boost level - the MBC does.
if you know you have an MBC, then don't you know the MBC is what controls the boost? You turn it up to increase boost and turn it down to decrease boost. If it's maxed out at 1.2bar, then you need a stiffer spring, or you have a problem somewhere (boost leak, improper installation, etc).

first of all my mbc isnt maxed out at 1.2!!
2nd i was trying to regulate my mbc when i hit 1.8bar and i directly i stoped and glowered my boost!
3rd i know people who changed there ecu, they plug it out and put the jdm ecu ofcourse they changed the chip so that the car can start!

No, they don't change any chips. They just reprogram it like the rest of us. There is no need to change out the ECU. It has no control over boost when you use an MBC. I don't even understand what you're asking anymore, because you said you turned up your MBC and hit 1.8 bar. If that's the case, then turn the MBC back up!! If it doesn't work, then you have a problem that has nothing to do with the ECU. The MBC is either installed improperly, you have a boost leak, or it's a bad MBC.

i didnt tune anything i just turned the knob of the mbc and i hit 1.8bar and i stoped!
is there any way to see what ecu(assuming i have another ecu) i have other than downloading the rom and checking it?
Why are you so hell-bent on thinking you have a different ECU? I don't understand the problem here. Of course the boost goes up if you turn the knob too far. That's when you turn it back down. You have to make small changes - it's simple. If it jumps really high with slight changes, then it's installed improperly.
If you know the ECU is not controlling boost, then why did you make this thread and talk about your boost being off? People don't randomly put different ECUs in Evos, and a different ECU wouldn't randomly make the car slower. If you didn't hit fuel cut, then you either didn't hit a high enough load, or the ECU has been flashed and doesn't have fuel cut anymore.

assuming you have 2 ecus from the factory, in front of you, with the same part numbers, there would be no external way to tell them apart. you would have to check the program. whenever i replace a bad pcm, (or ecu), the vin is inputed into the ecu prior to program. you have to have the dealer hook your car up to their system and read the vin#.
