Not Happy with my Defi Guage brightness and startup (Video)

Well i got these guages about a year ago and this problems always bothered me.. especially when i see others with the same guages n there 10x brighter. Basically when i do the start up, the guages are REALLY bright, then they dim down after the opening display is over.. AND now after i did this video i realized my EGT doesnt flash while my BOOST guage does.. take a look at these vids..

Basically what i want to know is if theres anyway to brighten up my guauges so there as bright as when it does the swoosh display, or if something was wired wrong and thats why there so dim.

P.S. Excuse music at the end of video lol.. stupid flipup screen

Do they become brighter if you turn on your headlights?

I'm gonna put $20 saying that his gauges don't dim or brighten when he turns the headlights on.

I'm gonna put another $20 saying that he has the white wire connected to a 12V constant source.

the white wire is a illumination wire, and it should be T'ed into your headlight wires so that your gauges dim when the headlights are on, so you're not being blinded by the gauges. As the white wire is connected to a 12V consant source, the gauges always think your headlights are on, and they dim.

so... is my $40 safe?

^^^ I think he is right. I dont understand how someone can screw that up. The "how to" section was right on the money.

I would try disconnecting the illumination wire first just to see if you have that connected up wrong. If the brightness returns, well done; if not, keep troubleshooting using the how to guides. There isnt that much to wire with those gauges.

Do these gauges use the defi controller? If so, make sure you plug them into the right connection in the back of the controller. I don't have the instructions in front of me anymore but on one of the connections you can adjust the brightness, on the other you can't. I think you want to use the connection closest to the outside (if you looking at it from the back, on the right hand side).

Use the arrow keys on the control unit.. There is a up and down arrow...those adjust the brightness.

Yeah, I just put one of those in my IX, and it should be as bright all the time as it was at the begining of the "show". Until you turn the headlights on, then it dims to what you're seeing now. There's a how to for the defi d link instal. Use that. The wire colors are the exact same for the blue racer gauges.

Thanks everyone for the replys im going to try what everyone said... BUT i actually would want them THAT bright when my headlights are on! (i know im a ricer! lol)

So these lights ARE supposed to dim to what they are now, when the headlights are on.

BTW the blue racer guages DO NOT use the Defi control unit.
