Need help choosing an aftermarket racing seat

im looking for a seat that will hold me in better than the oem recaros. i drive my car a couple of times a week, drag race, and occassionally on a long trip so i would like something that is comfortable. im 6'1 175lbs with a 34inch waist. unfortunately, i live in an area where there are no shops close by where i can actually test some seats out myself. please vote which seat you would recommend and why. if you vote "other" please post which seat.

my budget is $2000 or less for 2 seats, brackets, and sliders. i can also get a pair of status ring leather carbon fiber seats (i know they cost alot more than my budget) for a good deal, which is why i listed them in my poll.

on a side note, i want something that is FIA approved, but was wondering if all seats that are NOT FIA are bad? the ones i am looking at are the NRG carbon fiber seats (sparco evo style).

I sat in a drift car at a drift event in Atlanta, Ga. and I was practically stuck on the seat and had to pry myself out. It had some Bride seats.

Status seats are really nice but they are pretty expensive. Quality is top notch though.

If you want FIA Approved seats, look into Recaro and Sparco.

The only BRIDE seat thats FIA approved is Zeta IIIs.

Rest of the seats on your list are not FIA approved.

I wouldn't buy a seat that was not FIA certified or OEM to put in my car. Some of the seats listed meet absolutely no recognized safety specification and that could mean the difference between having a broken back in an accident.

I have the SPG's and I drive my car for extended periods (2 hours) at a time and they are comfortable. I'm 5 11" 230, but I'm not big in the hip area. The other good thing about the SPG is that it's available in a wider size. The only issue is they may be a little over your stated budget of $2K or less. Good Luck

I have Sparco Evos in my car, and while it makes it a bit of a pain getting in and out, it's not terrible. I'd also recommend FIA seats since you know it will be safer than the OEM seat, and with anything else it's a crap shoot. It's nice having racing shells, they hold you in position so much better than stock Recaros. I get butt-numb in about 2 hours in my seats, but replacing the foam in the base pad (they're just held closed with Velcro) with something like Confor foam would go a long way to making them more suitable for the long haul.

I had custom seat bases fabbed up for my seats and I sit about 2" lower than stock which I think is much better than the tractor-like seating position of the stock seats. I'm 5'10" so you'd probably really like a lower seating position. The shop that fabbed my bases has sold to other people on this board and they're not much more expensive than the reprehensible Sparco bases: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=179674 The new bases Mike@Sublime makes are suitable for sliders if you don't want fixed seat.

Here's a blurry pic of what they look like in the car:

It's hard to see from the pic, but the driver's side base has an integrated fire extinguisher mount which is an option.

i think the most comfortable Sparco bucket seat is the fighter. I used the 2000 and the evo before. here is the pictures. I'm 6'2 and 191 pound. even in long drive it is comfortable. Also the seats are black but i have crappy camera. I don't know why they looks different..also my seats are on sliders from sparco.

guy that are using the buckets, how well do they work with the oem seat belts? i dont plan on installing a full cage to run harnesses.

RobevoRS,

i like the fighter as well, but its not FIA certified. in the pics you posted, they are the fighters right? what was wrong with the pro2000? both seats look very similar to me. also, can you use the oem seat belt?

Definitely appreciate all the help guys, keep posting!!

I think the OEM belts work fine with racing shells. It can be a bit of a pain to get your seat belt latched due to the fact the center console is in the way, but it's not terrible. Just so you know, the OEM receptacle fits on the seat itself, and it will get moved to the seat base when you run a racing shell.

I run the belt on the outboard side through the waist belt hole on the seat and over the top on the inboard side to make it easier to latch/unlatch the seat belt. The waist belt is snug doing it this way, and I don't worry about submarining. You might have to worry if you were really skinny.

the factory seatbelt dont give you enough lower support since the side of the seats are much higher then any factory seats. /for lateral support/ Unless you start alkind of seek and hide game with them.
Yes the Fighters are not FIA approved. Well They are approved any racing untill you go the PRO level.../Like grouppe "A" /
The PRO and the 2000 are too racey /wich is a good thing for racing/ . You can see it on the picture. They have more lateral support and they are "deeper". But the fighters have a protection for getting in and out daily... Other words they not going to be "used" that fast. So the fighter is a very good compromise between two world.
Unless you building a serius race car./No more street driving /
it was my choice to pick one of them,i never had fighter before ,but i heard alots of good things about them. So this time i picked them. Absolutly no regrets here!
I do not will build a hardcore race car so it is good enough. If i will change my mind down to the road i can sell them and get something serius. CarbonFiber racing bucket seats.
For now i'm a weekend warrior with the matching seats!
