electronic boost gauge problem

i have checked all of the vacuum hoses coming from the fuel pressure regulator solenoid and going to the boost gauge, and my gauge is still malfunctioning. if i cruise around with no boost and park my car and then restart it the boost guge works fine and imediatelly shows vacuum. the problem occurs if i go full boost a few times shut off my car and turn it back on the gauge reads 0 vacuum. it will do this for a couple of minutes at idle and the show vacuum and then work fine until i turn off the car again. i noticed when the car is cold at initial start up the guage always works fine, it only begins acting up if starting engine already at normal temp. another thing thats weird while its showing 0 vacuum it will still show boost pressure, and if i run it full boost a couple of times it will show vacuum again. I follow these instructions for connection

I have the greddy electronic boost gauge 52 mm version 2(amber light). and yes i did put in the restrictor pill in the T for the line that connects to the boost gauge sensor. help would be greatly appreciated.

I tapped into my fuel pressure regulator for my boost gauge and it read 2-3 pounds to high. When I went to Buschurs for a tune they said it was off and to tap else where. So I was running to low and pick up some good power just with a couple more pounds and a good tune.

You've tapped in to the pressure line AFTER the solenoid that regulates boost/vacuum to the FPR. You need to tap in to the short line between the manifold and the solenoid.

i had the same problem with my autometer nexus and i found out i had to let the gauge calibrate and then start the car and pray it would be accurate.

Yes. Connect the "t" fitting before the solenoid and it will fix your problem. A random "0" reading on a boost gauge is almost always caused by this. Think of it this way ... it will take like 15 min and $1 worth of hose to find out ...

The solenoid is in line to regulate the fuel pressure which is connected to the vacuum/boost system. Part of this regulation is to keep vacuum from the FPR at idle. Why, I couldn't tell you. I just know it happens. I also don't know what else that solenoid might be doing at other times that could goof up the reading.

This is the Greddy Profec B install manual. Read the 1st "Important" box on p. 7.

Let us know if it worked and also show us a pic of which line you tapped into to get rid of your problem. I have a similar problem, but with a mechanical gauge. Thanks.

hey ace,

i own the same gauge you have - greddy electronic boost, v2. mine has done that once in the 2 years i've owned it. i'd say it's probably a gauge defective problem as i've installed my gauges properly.

my old temp on my civic used to get stuck all the time. was so annoying.

if it doesn't do it often, i'd say leave it alone. it'll probably get over itself.

Did it work?

I know of one car specifically that had this problem with 2 gauges at once .. of course, they were both feeding from the same pressure source. Changing the source fixed both gauges. (the 2 gauges were Defi boost and Profec B controller)
