Road trip in the EVO, Works re-flash mpg

Had to make a 375 mile road trip today, and thought I would share the mpg I got with the newly installed Works re-flash.

Weather was pretty hot today in the midwest at around 90 degrees so I had the AC on the entire way. Most of the mileage was interstate highway with about 15 miles of in-town driving. I was cruising at speeds of 70-85 with a couple of bursts to 120 mph. Total distance between my fuel check was 240 miles and I used 9.610 gallons of 93 octane fuel for a total mpg of 24.97, or 25 mpg. Not bad really..I was actually a little surprised.

BTW- I wasn't looking forward to the long boring drive on the highway, and I wasn't wrong... the EVO just isn't made for that kind of straight highway long-haul use. Funny how a car thats so entertaining on the backroads can be so different out of its element. Still not bad in the gas mileage dept though!!

Would you recommend me taking my evo on an 1100 mile trip? I'm visiting some friends next month when I conduct some personal business and I'd love for them to see it. When I took the car for delivery, I drove home 350miles and got 27.5mpg on the first tank!

I just took my EVO on a 900 mile (round trip, 450 each way) road trip this weekend to So. Cal from Phoenix...

There were only 2 things that were sort of crappy about the drive...

1) the lack of cruise control (not a big deal to me, since I've never owned a car with cruise control); and

2) the hard plastic arm rest on the door. My elbow started to go numb after about 2-3 hours of driving. If you have a pillow or something, just wedge it under your arm while you're driving and you should be fine.

Put a Jell wrist pad (like the ones at the computer store) on the armrest.... much better than a pillow. I use one on my computer chair arm for those long counterstrike sessions.... Does an excellent job of preventing numbness and it's small enough to keep a couple in the glove box.

Only thing I'm worrying about is the amount of bug splatter on my intercooler and the tremendous amount of mileage on the expensive tires. They only last like 8000 miles, right? That'll be 2200 quick miles I put on it.

8000 miles?

No way...I have 6700 highway miles on mine so far and the fronts still have 50% tread left and around 70-75% on the rear.

if you drive EXTREAMLY agressivly then i could see 8k miles on the tires. but that would be 8000 miles of hard turns quick take offs and heavy breaking

Don't want to keep dragging the thread off topic, but I've got close to 13k on my tires and they look to be good for a while longer. I don't autocross, but I've taken unfair advantage of a turn or two - as the opportunity presents itself.

I've heard of people wearing out new tires in just one day autocrossing.

My tires are way beyond the legal limit with only 7000 miles.
Do you guys have highway miles on your car?
There is no way my tires will make it 9000 miles!
The front are so cambered in that they are totally bald on the inside! (yes I rotated them to the rear)

TragicallyHip - Did you have your car re-aligned for more negative camber, or is it "as is" from the factory? The inside edge wearing like that sounds like you are running a lot of negative camber. Typically -1.5 to -1.75 is passable, but anything beyond a -2.0 will usually start to cause premature wear on the inside tire edge. Too much, or uneven, toe will also cause major wear problems.

I rotated my tires at 3500 miles, and spend maybe 25% of my driving time on the interstate. The rest of the time is spent on twisty backroads, where I tend to push the car pretty hard at times....probably in the 7/10ths to 9/10ths range.

My tires still look great with no weird wear patterns, and I expect at least 12-13,000 out of my tires before popping for new ones. Maybe you just spend more time than me pushing the envelope in the 10/10ths range, and this results in wear and tear closer to autocross use?

See....I can help drag my own thread off topic!
