Believe me, if you are concerned about safety then stop looking at the '03-'05 model lancers, including the EVO. I've seen what they look like after a side impact at about 45-50 mph and it's definately not pretty. I speak from experience so just take this as a small, but hopefully meaningful, piece of advice. Not trying to be a punk about it.

Thats sooo dumb. I mean we are not talking about a Lambo here which is meant for one thing only. We are talking about an evo, which is a 4 door sedan, not a two door fiberglass body couple. If the STI can have a good crash rating there is no reason why the evo couldnt.

actually the crash rating of the rear doors were good(four stars!). it is only the front doors that received a poor rating(two stars). I remember Big AL has a child seat at the back

And you base this statement off of what? The Lancer/Cedia platform was one of the first small cars to pass the IHSA's offset crash test. Not only that I cant even count the horrific crashes members on here have walked away from. Why again isn't it safe? I would dare to guess 80-90% of the fatal accidents Evos have been involved in (in the USA) were the result of high speed loss of control. Blame driver error for a 100 mph crash taking two lives, not an apparent "unsafe car."

Have you ever been hit in drivers side? Trust me it doest feel so hot... People dont buy the EVO for a family sedan. I dont care if it has four doors

Not true - we own 3 turbo family haulers.. Turbo Accord, STI, and the Evo. I have 2 child car seats in the back of my Evo and I dont feel like they are unsafe back there. Actually I think the Evo is a very safe car.. I can tell you at least 3 or 4 impacts were avoided because the Evo's handling and braking and acceleration are spot on.

Im sure it doesnt, but your alive right? Side impacts will never feel good, the safest cars in the world merely prevent penetration from the impact and deaccelerate the force before it acts on your body in a violent manner. Have you been hit in the side in another car to compare your experience with? I never said anything about family sedans, just discussing structural integrety.

I agree with the performance aspect of being safe, but its the other drivers out there with SUV's that I dont trust hitting the side of the evo

^ That looks entirely survivable. Also notice the back is basically unscathed. How fast was that impact.

My co-worker says "You just have to be in survivor mode, like when you watch cops and the bad guys roll the car 3 times.. jump out and make a run for it"

I understand were your coming from. The Evo is a light weight car the is designed for speed. Which is why I bought it. I got hit in the side with my audi and it took it like a champ. But the Audi weight quite a bit more than the Evo
