Question Things to look for in USED Evo's?

So I am about to move back to the states next month and I am going to be getting a used Evo, as of right now I have a 00 civic si in the states so the jump to an Evo will be nice. From everyone's experience what is good to be on the look out for when purchasing a used Evo? I'm looking at getting a 03-05ish or whatever is reasonably priced.

Yeah, I know I should get a new one, but they aren't exactlly cheap, I understand that I would be better off getting a new one but I am about to move back to the states, buy a house, and have a kid so... IF you HAD to buy a used Evo, what would you be on the look out for? Plus I don't like the X's, looks like a space ship. IMO

mods. i would stay away from modified ones if possible. other than that just drive the car, make sure the clutch isnt slipping and the tranny/syncros feel smooth. i wouldnt say there are any large problems that stick out and show a pattern in many evos, so just make sure everything is running smooth.

I'm hoping to find a little old lady that used it to get groceries, lol. Yeah, am really looking for all stock, I'm moving to Phoenix next month so I'm hoping I will be able to find one in that big azz city. I bidding on a JDM bumper and taillights here in japan at the moment so hopfully I'll have part already to put on it when I get there.

Look for the obvious in the engine bay. Feel the rotors, if there not smooth & warped, it means hard breaking. Look for stress in bolts or rounded edges. That will tell you if the car has been turned back to stock.

Many people try to put it back to stock to sell. I say be careful if you buy it from a dealer cus they won't have an idea of what they are selling specially if it's been moded or not. Look for zip ties, drill holes, screws that aren't tight, look at wires to see if something was taped to it. The more time u have to inspect the car the better. Good luck

if you buy one look for 05 why? ACD is nice, bigger hotside and some little things here and there they fixed compared to 03. Make sure its all stock. feel the clutch, pop the hood and see if nothing was touched intake box piping etc, so no performance mods, I would say boost gauge, and turbo timer should be ok.

gl with purchase.

Compression test is first on my list, then take a test drive.

Good luck

Just look to make sure things that were done were done right. I had some pretty half-a$$ed installs on mine that I didn't realize until later.

my very first car was an 89 jetta that was owned by a little old lady. She was about 80 years old and her eyesite got to the point where she couldn't drive anymore.

Dumb old ho never changed the oil once in that car in 8 years that she owned it. 60k miles on the car and it ate a quart of oil a week and had absolutley no compression. I tried to return it but her son was giving me a bunch of crap, basically title was in my name now. So i had no legal recourse. I was 16, and didn't know much better at the time. It test drove fine.

Moral of the Story is, never trust anyone when buying a used car, not even nice old ladies.

I have an 06 up for sale that is lightly modded and still has stock clutch/brakes/etc. after nearly 20k miles which is a good sign of a car that has been well taken care of
