Caught in a Dilema Need Some Advice...

Alright, heres the situation. I have been a member of the boards for awhile and I abslutely love the Evo. I currently have a 93' Integra LS that I drive everyday. I picked it up from my bro-in-law for a few bucks. Its in great shape and I have no problem with the car.

I was talking with the Mrs and I mentioned that I would like a new car possibly next year. She asked me about just keeping the Teg' and building the motor in it like I wanted to. I told her I was thinking of an 06' IX MR and it would be more suitable for a family vehicle also. Now, I drive almost 100miles round' trip everyday to work and back. I get somewhat good mileage out of the Teg' (about as good as you can with a car that has 140k on the clock). On occasion, I have the kids with me. But not very often.

Ok, heres where it gets confusing. Save my money I was going to use to build the motor in the Teg' (approx. $5,800.00), sell the Teg' next year and buy the MR.

or

Keep the Teg' and build the motor etc. My biggest dilema is that its small. And I don't know if its worth dumping that kind of money into such an old car.
The Teg is paid for, but I have been wanting a new car for sometime.

Anyone have anything they can relate and help me in the right direction?

So you have an idea for what is in store for the Teg if I keep it.

Not mine, but what I'm shooting for. Shaved, tucked, built all-motor LS/Vtec.

Evo is high maintenance for high mileage driving. Gas mileage is not so good like 14mpg in town. 24mpg on the freeway if you can stay out of the pedal but Boost is instant on the highway so good luck doing that. Also good luck finding a new MR next year if you were looking for a "new" car.

Buy the 06 Evo MR.

Or sell them both and get a skyline.

Tough choice.

Well, i myself have 3 cars. I always keep a backup for the evo and my eclipse, which is a 92 prelude SI which has 148k on the clock haha. Idk if i where you and you think you could keep 2 cars around that honestly would be the smartest way to go considering the integra is paid off.

agree with the above 100% will be hard since the new evos will most likely already be out. Also to add the list of cons...get more attention from cops AND criminals (depends where you live), unless you can do a lot of maintenence work yourself, it costs a bit to keep it maintained. and also insurance costs are high :P

Ya, I wish. Seriously though, I love my DA but I want a new car (newer not brand new). All my buddies roll in WRX's, G35's, etc and my DA just can't keep up. I'm not throttle happy by any means so staying out of boost shouldn't be a problem. Thats partially why I want the MR, 6 speed!

Why does it have to be an MR? If you search this site you will realize that they are overhyped and overrated...why spend the extra cash?

Thats a good point. Fortunately we don't have a very high theft rate where I live. Plus, my car is parked in a secured facility when I'm at work. Nobody getting in or out of there without clearance.

Would it help if I told you I get 320miles to a tank in the DA? I don't romp on it hardly at all. But, I have been considering an all-motor LS/Vtec. I was thinking boost, but thats alot more money.

just figure the money stuff out and you'll probably have your answer...

can you afford an evo ix? get a VIN off one and call you insurance agency to see what your premium would be... it will definitely be going up...

and you definitely will want to maintain the car correctly... so you'll be doing oil changes every 5000 miles and getting the tyres rotated every 5-7000 miles.... you don't want to be replacing those tyres any sooner than you have to... the cheapest tyres are going to be $80 each (minimum and not necessarily how you want to shoe an EVO)...

just make sure you can maintain it properly... if it looks tight.. you might already know your decision...

also agree with what some of the others have been saying... if you want a new EVO... you better start thinking about it soon... prices aren't going to get better as the stock dwindles and the chance will increase that the new car you find will have to be shipped to you (which is about $1000 if across country)...

good luck!

I don't want a BRAND NEW Evo. 06' IX MR is what I'm after. As far as maintenance thats no problem. I keep the service records for all my cars and I make sure their all up to par.

Honestly? Go get a Honda Civic or something. The Evo has the room but isnt really a "Family" Car. Nor do you want to be slapping 100 miles on it a day and paying for premium gas. Get the Evo for the weekend enjoyment
