Get a basic Craftsman set from sears if you want quality for a lower price. If you want high quality but expensive, get Snap On. Or if you want something that will just get the job done, get a cheapo Stanley kit from Wal-Mart. I got the basic Stanley socket set at Wal-Mart to hold me over until January when I get my free Snap On tools. They get the job done, thats all that matters for now and they only cost me $30.

+1 mac, matco and snap-on are all over priced..i do like there tool boxs over the crafsman i only by from them cuz there trucks stop at my job but im going to start going to sears from now on. iv got this mod mag and it compares all the tools asides form mac, matco and snap-on and from what they say crafsmans better then husky and S.K. my father has 2 crafsman tool boxs full of crafsman tools and he never has a prob returning broken tools back to sears.

I think it may have to do with which series you get though. I've used Craftsman and never had any problems, but I had teachers that said that some of the Craftsman tools have broken over the years and others say they are unbreakable. I remember one of them saying something about the Professional Series or something is better than some other series they carry. I don't remember specifics.

Craftsman does make quality product though.

I usually don't mess with the craftsmen set unless they are metric only. I don't like having a bunch standard sizes that I don't use.

Craftsman is cool for around the house but if your working with them everyday then i would go with one of the big three. I have alot of MAC and snap on only because the tech school i attended offered me 50% off. In my opinion matco tools are the best tools money can buy. I've also tried the craftsman professinal and they hold up pretty well but are very pricey. When its all said and done you could buy some snap on tools for the price of the professinal.

I vote craftsman. If you break a hand tool it is really easy to take it right back to sears and get a new one for free. And they are affordable.

I wish Craftsmen would make a more "complete" metric kit. I went and bought a standard 122 piece set, and it came with half standards that I hardly use. Then I went to buy more metric stuff for my cars and bikes, and it ended up costing more then the kit did. The kits are truly a good value, when you buy the stuff individually, they get to be pretty expensive really quick.

I'm going to guess that most people don't have a "wednesday guy"...

Most people don't. Technicians do. Hopefully I will haha. Good to hear someone comment on the Professional Series as I wasn't 100% on that.

I bought all my tools individually (all craftsman)...Whenever I need a new tool that I don't have, I just go out and buy it. It is more expensive this way but don't notice cause I buy a tool as I need it, slowly building the tool collection.
Craftsman is good for their lifetime warranty.
