You don't have any jeeps there? Go beat up on the miltary equipment. Learn how to drive one of those well and you'll be just fine in a car. It really is easy to learn.

The rally cars do computer controled rev matching don't they? atleats thats how I thought it worked. They should only use the clutch twice in a race once to start once to stop.

Do I think it's a good idea to have an auto tranny in an EVO? Yes

How is that?
It would be hard to build a decent trans to hold the power in the Evo and have room for AWD to boot. I clutches don't even hold, I'd be damn sure the auto would take a ****. Plus it's not worth the development on the Evo anyway with the limited production runs. Not to mention the recertification that would be required for EPA and crash.

Tell me, the rally cars lose their hydraulic and do what? Change to maunal shift? GET A CLUE!
Thanks for the insult on my intelligence; that's nice. Last time I did something like that I got a PM from Secret Chimp, but I guess it's OK when his buddies do it...

As to the point in case - it all depends on what your definition of automatic is. The original poster was not suggesting the standard auto that shifts for you, rather an auto that you shift yourself. Isn't that the same as the sequential gear boxes? If we're considering the lack of a torque convertor as being a manual then I guess I'm wrong. I'm fully aware about how rally cars operate - I was a fan while you were still in diapers.

They generally use it while pulling the e-brake too.

I would guess that on upshifts they do nothing because it will go into gear, on downshifts I imagine the computer blips the trottle.
It also shifts very fast so it doesn't take much. And as Secret Chimp said, they only need them to last one race.
