Haha, did you look at the performance and accessories? Its like... A car cover, and a key chain...
And what moardak said is true. You're already screwed. You drove the triple diamonds.

There are certain mods that you could do that would not void the Warrany, but I have heard from several people that any mod would void it at the same token. Usually exhaust, air intake and items of such void only that specific item. It all depends on how well you know your service advisor and what he is willing to let slide.

+1 on what /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ he said.
Also most people just accept it when their advisor says that it's a voided warranty. You must know your rights and fight it. They cannot void your warranty, they must prove that the aftermarket part was a direct cause of the failed part.
When I asked my service advisor, he said "the biggest problem we see is when someone puts a boost controller on, then blows their transfer case or tranny. As long as you stick with something simple like intake and exhaust, you will be fine."
But I have heard of service advisors wanting to tell people that their warranty was voided for a cat back...
Talk with your advisor BEFORE you get the modification, and go with that

Talking to the advisor doesn't help. The Service Managers (SM), at least in my area, are all trained to state that any modification voids the warranty.
On any driveline failure, the District Service Manager (DSM) needs to be involved. The SM can authorize troubleshooting, but not repair, with verbal confirmation from the DSM.
You absolutely need to know what you are talking about. Understand (a) the warranty is federal law (b) the warranty is a contract with specific exculsions (c) understand limited warranties i.e., no, they can not legally void your powertrain warranty because you installed coilovers and (d) finally, the manufacturer has to prove that any modification caused the failure.
They can not void your powertrain warranty if the syncros in your transmission go and you have a catback. Mitsu relies on (1) you not knowing wtf the rules are (2) you not having enough $ to win in court. It is cheaper for them to fight you and lose than fix all transmissions with bad syncros because there is a modification on all cars (dollars and sense).
If you are denied warranty service. Request a copy of their Informal Dispute Process (IDP), when the DSM says it is in your manual, ask for a copy from him, and discuss the process with him/her. If you fail to resolve the situation to your satisfaction through the IDP, hire a lawyer and seek their advice. Someone who knows the laws will be able to tell you if it's worth it or not.
If you spin a bearing and the metal particals clog the oil journals in the head ($10K new block, head and labor at the dealer) the lawyer will be cheaper.
I was told I "must have over reved the engine", I asked if the ECU logged over-rev conditions and 5k launches as the BMW M3 does. When the answer was "No", they couldn't prove drive error caused the failure. Warranty repaired.
FTW

yeah im sorry to say i tried to get a evom member syncros replaced under warranty and it didnt fly. cause as soon as the service manager seen the turbo (35r) which all he knew that it wasnt stock) he had to call the warranty rep cause he wanted it to be approved for it. but it wasnt now his vin is voided on the mdl. (mitsu dealer link). in other words it would only work if everybody was down. but if they were to go to another dealer after we did the syncros under warr. we get screwed and the claim would bounce and we would have to pay for it. how ever turbo timers, boost controllers, catbacks, intakes, and a some kind of lowering kit is all you can get away with at my shop.

^^^ Your right. It is the dealer, but the service manager can be a big problem too. A mitsu. dealer in GA used to void warranty's left and right on Evos and had a bad rep with reparing evos as well, but as soon as they got a new manager he fired all the bad techs and hired good one and also was more leaneant on basic mods.
Also if you want to try it when you go in to try to get the car serviced under warranty you can print out the law that says they have to prove that the part that broke, broke as a direct result of the mods, so if your suspension is stock and you have basic engine bolt ons and your strut goes they have to replace that.

I gotta knocking, like bad, coming from top end/head of my engine and have called a few dealers with mixed results. I said I have a few basic mods, an exhaust and an air intake, but I have not done any modifications to the engine. He said well you have an exhaust and an intake so you have modified the engine. I was like this guy is not that smart, next dealer. Next one I also mentioned my licp and he said that may be related to the issue at hand but we would have to look at it. Pretty much ignored the exhaust and intake though. Gonna call a few more dealers.
