The comment about the retarded timing makes sense. Why it makes sense is because it will cause the combustion process to take place more in the exhaust manifold which would lead to accelerated temps causing it to potentially glow red hot. I would look into your timing settings.

crazy, such a manifold should be ceramic coated or atleast heat wrapped! imagine what kind of air the radiator fan pushing to the air filter

Everyone is saying it's 'normal' for this or that type of header to get red hot but... the op has given us no indication of the driving conditions. I have a tubular header on my 240sx with an sr wap and it has never glowed red, even after drag racing. I've seen it happen occasionally on some other cars but only after extreme driving over an extended period of time.

doesnt take high revs to make the stock manifold glow. Just driving on the highway for a little bit at 70-80mph is enough to make it glow. At cruise you will see 760-800C EGT temps.

That's AMS's Time Attack car after a complete cool down lap. I'm sure the hot air isn't going to change much, since it still has to be compressed by the hot turbo, anyway.

Im sure my timing is off. Ive ben trying to set it myself but cant seem to get it dialed in. I have Skunk 2 timing gears so it makes it a little easier. It does shoot flames out of the exhaust, red ones. The header glows like the one in the picture but it is cast and after only a few miles of driving. Would a bad turbo or wastegate cause this???? Need to find a good shop in Grand Rapids Michigan but cant seem to find any that know anything about evo's.

Are exhaust gases that hot, as his are, any risk to the turbo?
