Headers glowing bright red!!!

Is it normal for your header to glow bright red after a few miles of driving? I have ben building an evo 8 for 4 months now and finaly got it running so Im not familiar with how hot the engine gets in this car.

This car was stripped when I bought it but the turbo and headers were still there so I dont know if there stock or not. By looking at it the parts look to be stock. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

headers can glow red, but usually only after some serious pounding and revving.

tell us about your parts, atleast what you know

short answer, that is not normal

solution, time for a new exhaust manifold and guages to monitor all vital components and a tune

you definetely need to get yourself some gauges to monitor everything. ive seen glowing headers but that was after driving the crap out of the car. I mean high revving around I-285 several times............

sucks buying used cars because of the lack of knowledge of what happen before but im sure you will be ok

If it's stainless steel, glowing is fine. If it's cast iron (stock), glowing is bad.

I believe one of the most common causes for this is severely retarded timing
