Broke my evo last night

so last night at around 11pm i picked a friend of mine up from work. The roads were icy but i have studs on. Well i hit an icy patch and my tires spun pretty good for a fraction of a second and then they caught traction. then i got to hear this really loud POP and my car started fishtailing. so i pulled over as soon as i could and called mitsubishi and 2 hours later i got a tow truck. now im getting another tow truck to take it into the dealer... any ideas what it could be?

I hope a flatbed picked up your car and not a tow truck. If it was in fact a tow truck.......hello new transfer case too.

not necessarily. If he broke an axle, his Tcase could still be fine... just up its a rear one lol

Sounds about right. The wheel broke all traction but was still spinning at whatever speed the car was going. When it suddenly gripped again, the shock due to the force of friction was imparted onto the drivetrain and probably broke the axle.

Are you modded? If not, you might be able to get them to cover it. The axles weren't necessarily designed to handle conditions like this, but then again it occurred in normal driving rather than abuse...

Warranty should cover it then. You'll be fine.

good thing you got a warranty. If it was only for a fraction of a second does it really have that much force to break an axle like that??

thats why i said that... his t case would only be bad if he broke a front axle and the piece broke something inside there. My buddy broke his rear axle the same way this guy did, but on the track, he had to get a new rear diff as well because his axle snapped off and became fused inside the rear diff.
