So the other day a cop here in stafford VA, (redneck), gave me a ticket due to my factory stock exhaust missing a baffle. He pulled out a rod stuck it in my muffler wiggled it around and came back saying that his little tool was supposed to hit some sort of baffle. Since it did not he wrote me an imporper exhaust ticket. Its a 90 dollar ticket that I am not paying so I will be going to court. The problem is my shop wont write up a ticket for me and I cant find an exhaust diagram without buying the service manual. Does anyone have an idea on what I can show the judge to make her believe my exhaust is in proper working order.


Its funny because he said I had an "illegal aftermarket body kit". HHAA I thought I was in Cali for a moment. lol.

*Sigh* I hate exhaust regulation in California... especially near where I live...

Try calling the dealership? Ask if they can inspect and write something or call them and you may not have to buy the service manual. Otherwise pray the cop does show up to court. Good luck!

I would definitely contact the dealership or even MMNA. This is an issue they should care about, because you cant have factory vehicles being tiicketed. Thats just wrong. If it were me, I would make an example out of this cop and have him and the dept reprimanded for not have proper training or knowledge to be giving out tickets of this nature.

You are probably not going to find a interior diagram of the muffler. However, i believe it is a straight through design, so there is no baffle. Most mufflers are no stright through and so they go through a series of bafflers that would stop a prodding rod. The STI also also a straight through stock muffler

I was actually considering putting together a little evo pamphlet for him to educate himself on our cars, becasue he obviously had no right to be writing me a ticket if he didnt even know what kind of vehicle im driving!

 

You really should fight this in court. I've been hearing about your scenario quite a bit recently and I'm getting kind of P/O'd about it. I got no respect for cops who will pull you over, thinking that "oh its just another civic with a body kit". Its just an easy way of filling their daily ticket quota. they wouldnt pull over a ferrari which makes just as much, if not more noise than our cars.

yeah fight this hard.. fight it for all of us evo owners!! i think if u get a statement from the dealership and a picture of it in detail u should win this case..

I f#@*ing hate cops. If I were you I would get a statement from the dealership or from the factory stating that the stock emissions control systems meet all restrictions/requirements in all 50 states. Then take pictures of your stock exhaust from underneath and compare them to the many pictures avail from Mitsubishi in court. The cop will have to be in court in order to fight it so I would make sure to point out that his incompetance and personal opinion as being a factor for which you have been inconvenienced. As long as you aren't yelling or waving a weapon, you can say whatever you want about his dumb-*** when you are in court. Cops like that are our enemies, and only exist to inconvenience young guys that have harmless hobbies. Don't miss an opportunity to let the courts and that cop know that they can't waste innocent people's time to settle their personal vendettas.
