10w-30 vs. 5w-30 synthetic oil?

My friend was sponsored by vavloline and has tons of cases of synthetic oil that he gave to me. Problem is, is that it's 10w-30 not 5 I was curious if you can run 10w-30 in the evo I mean Its still 30 weight but I'm nervous. Any info would be great thanks!

umm the factory recommends 10w 30. Just look at your oil cap lol In colder weather you could use the lighter weight

You can start by reading your owner's manual...

10-30 is fine if you live an area that doesn't get extremely cold. I don't remember what the exact temp is, again refer to your owner's manual, but for the most part if you're in a part of the country that sees snow in the winter (which you are) I would save it for the summer and use 5-30 in the colder months. Although, for awhile I ran 10-30 year round in my DSM's 4g63 and I didn't have any cold start problems.

Based on what I know, 5W-30 would give your engine better lubrication on start up when the engine is cold. The 5W just means that the oil is lower in viscocity when cold.

10w30 daily driving, 5w30 for the colder months, and 15w50 for road track use only(to keep your oil temps down from extended road racing-just make sure you change it after the track day).

- Between 0 °F and 32 °F, then use either 5w-30 or 10w-30.
- Temps colder then 0 °F, then 5w-30.
- Temps 32 °F or warmer, then 10w-30.

I have used amsoil 10w 30, but that stuff is too expensive. So i got cheap and stuck with Mobil. It still works fine and it's half the price.
