Man is it just me or is the costs of this a little extreme. I guess they want to drive the punters away with this pricing strategy.

Just wait for the shop manuals to be released, hopefully they shouldn't cost as much. Remember a techinfo subscription will cover manuals for all models back to 1995. The shop manuals for a specific model and year should be cheaper.
