Redline Episode, Evo Oil Issue?

So, on today's Redline episode they spoke on Evo's turning right have oil problems. From what I could understand, the oil pressure can drop when you make a hard right turn. Does anyone know about this, I think AMS was who said something about it on the show.

Thanks.

Evo's do have oiling issues under high g-force sustained right handers. This problem isn't unique to Evo's. Most every transverse mounted car with the sump on one end of the pan will suffer from this problem.

Most cars have oiling issues under high-g cornering. If you ever see a BMW at an autoX, listen to it after a run, chances are you'll hear some pretty badass "tick tick tick tick" from the valvetrain

the problem is that on high G corners, the oil moves to one side of the pan, and the pickup is on the other.

There are ways to take care of this...

Build/use an oil pan with baffles or traps, so the oil can easily fall in, but can't come out of the sump easy

an accusump, which is a spring pressure loaded oil resevoir. When the oil pressure is high, the resevoir fills with oil and holds it there till it senses an oil pressure drop (with the engine running) and it starts to push oil back into the engine at the set oil PSI.

Or, you can modify the engine to go dry sump (ohhhh.... dry sump... [drewl]) which is where the oil is kept in a seperate resevoir with pumps that suck the oil from the bottom of the engine. this not only eliminates oil pressure drops on cornering, but it also increases horsepower as it significantly reduces windage

I cant imagine the oil moving to one side of the pan for an amount of time that will affect the engine and or turbo.

Its kinda like with a bike you just add some oil if your doing wheelies for too long or you have to get a custom pickup. maybe they should make a mod like this for the evo's as well.

You obviously have little track experience.

It is an issue, and a serious one with tracked cars.

if you go to any oil pan manufacturer milodon and so on, they sell screen kits to weld into your oil pan to fix it.
