i love my car, love everythign about it.. the way it handles, the way it looks, everything. but i hate the back talk i get from everyone saying that im an evo wannabe or whatever else they try to say.. so i think its time.
i basically have been trying to do this for a few years now. just never had the guts to do it.. but ive gotten to the point that i want to get rid of my lancer, and can afford to. im 22 now and ive had it since the day i turned 16. and i want something newer that will last me the rest of the way through college

with saving a few paychecks, plus selling my car i could afford an evo and pay it off inside of 8 months without a problem, just pinching pennies. sucks it wont be a brand new one. but im thinking i want to find an 06 RS. white or red i dont care... now i wouldnt be able to modify it really at all untill it is paid off. but maybe simple stuff like.. coilovers and an exhaust, and thats it just to make it look/sound a little nicer.

so what does everyone think? i mean.. i dont really make that much money at all.. plus im a full time student. but i could do it because i dont really have any bills at all yet. (come september/november of 08 ill be moving out. so by then ill lose my shot if i dont do it now.) i just figure anything under a 10k loan. and im fine.. should be able to finish paying it off by the end of the summer in time for fall semester.

why don't you just take out the wing???problem solve..trying to afford an
evo while still at school is going to be hard..but good luck if you can find one for 10k

ehh, well i actually like the wing so i dont really want to take it off, but if it was an evo, i would more then likely take that off.. i know i can afford it. and no it wouldnt be 10k. it would be more like.. 25k.. but ill have 15-18k as a downpayment.. so 10k or less of a loan.. im only making like 1800 a month, but i have no bills at all.. and my insurance and other bills are covered since im full time student

two things.

1. who cares what other people think or say about your car? if you love it, and you are happy with it, F them.

2. evos cost alot to maintain. especially compared to other cars. keep in mind oil changes are a minimum of 40 bucks basically, if you do it yourself. tires cost an arm and a leg. premium gas costs a bunch, and evos are pretty exspensive for any mods you might want to do.

ultimately you are the only one that knows if you can afford it or not. other than the question of money, i doubt you will find many people on here that will tell you not to get it. this is an evo forum after all.

cool thanks man.. i like to hear that kinda stuff.

but when it comes to a used evo.. say less then... 30k miles.. is there any big signs i need to look out for? would hate to buy one that someone was taking to the drag every weekend for the past 2 years and was abused to hell and back

lol i know.. well.. im already on 93. and ive run nothing but castrol full syn in my car since i bought it. and ive always done it myself.. so any additional cost wouldnt be that big of a deal other then maybe a few extra fluid flushes when i buy the car.

well.. ok i guess i heard what i wanted. i have a bunch of for sale signs ready for my car now. so by middle of january hopefully ill be short a car. i know a few things will cost more. but really its not that big of a jump right now since ive been doing most of my own work to my car anyways.. ill keep reading the evo forums to figure out the most i can on what to look out for in a used evo. so now im on the lookout for an 06 rs or something close.

So basically from what I can tell, you just want everyone to tell you to go ahead and do it; but if anyone says its a bad idea or you should do this instead, you seem to argue.
So my point, you seem stuck on doing it and sacrificing a huge budget, so do it already.

yep basically it. ill be setting aside a few extra $ untill my car is sold. but ya its gunna happen i guess. ill more then likely regret it after a few months of not having that much money.. so it will be money well spent once im done paying it off.

Because it's annoying. If he were quoting different posts back-to-back, then that would make sense, but for the guy to make a whole new post every time he thinks of something new rather than just editing his last post is a little redundant. Sorry, it's something that an adult would do... not just mods.

Anyway, what's the deal with this '00 Viper that your account says you drive? Or is that your daddy's?

I would say if you want it bad then buy it, but then again if you are financially tight then I say not. I don't regret buying my car, it's what I really wanted for a long time, and being in college and working two jobs to pay for car payments+insurance is not easy. Even with my dad's name under the insurance, the price is still high. My situation is very similar to yours, I sold my car, made a down payment, and took out a loan around 13k. Also you have to think about interest rate, and loan period, a lot of banks out there do not approve more than 3 years on a used car, which can sky rocket your monthly payments. Luckily I had a family member with awesome credit and I got a good interest rate+4 year loan period on a used car, and I still sometimes think my budget is tight sometimes.
