Is it just me or does shifting from 1st to 2nd gear always buck?

shift faster, get on the gas quicker, learn to lift and reapply throttle in sync with clutch engagement/disengagement. you can also unplug the launch control plug to make the revs drop slower but you will lose the ablilty to engage the 2-step.

Ya your prob coming off the clutch to fast causing it to buck. Try letting it out a little slower towards the end. Im not saying burn your clutch but ya.

if it was shifting technique it would happen on all the shifts right....so it's not that...to me that is the hardest shift to do correctly on the evo...1st to 2nd....the evo is crazy...shifts depend on the weather or something...lol....cuz sometimes it is smoother than other times ...even when u do the same thing...i don't think mine ever bucks though

I know what your doing, you are taking long between shifts and the revs are dropping off. When you relese the clutch the engine has to catch up causing a buck. I battle it out with quicker shifts and a slight slip to smooth it out from 1-2.

Not true 1-2 are really low gears, thats why you are seeing this.

I see this, but my personal explanation is that the stock drivetrain is too heavy and has too much inertia to decrease in rpm to match the gear difference in 1->2 in the time it takes to make a "normal" shift, so when I shift from 1->2 I do it faster and the engine has to slow down to match the speed of the trans, resulting in a "buck". I don't have this problem in my eclipse but I have a light aluminum flywheel which I love to death. I'll be putting one in the evo during its first clutch replacement.

ur coming of the clutch too fast and/or shifting too early..

i usually shift out of 1st around 3500 then shift the rest around 2500-2800.

As far as coming off the clutch too fast you can raise your clutch pedal a little, that should help a little.

Cheers!

Cold weather makes a big difference for me... the oil hasn't heated up and until I drive a few shifts it boughs a bit. It took me awhile to get used to this clutch set-up, it isn't the easiest.

pressing the clutch in too deep will do this. the engagement point is extremely short.

using the a/c definitely makes it rougher to shift
