Official EVO Insurance Thread

A buddy of mine has his Porsche insured with them and he told me that they are a solid company with very good rates. The quotes I got from Response were far lower than Progressive or Allstate, so I ended up using them as an insurer on my Evo and my wife's Lincoln Navigator (the cost to insure both vehicles was only a bit more than it would have cost to insure just the Evo with Allstate or Progressive). However, your record might prohibit you from getting a decent deal on insurance anywhere. I'd give Response a shot though...

Alright so I spent last night doing Auto insurance quotes and with USAA... The cheapest out of the bunch was supposed to be the most expensive...
2003 SVT Cobra which was $487 per month with Progressive was only $287 with USAA...
But when I looked up an EVO... with progressive it just gave "Lancer" as an option and came out to $247.00
but with USAA it was a WHOPPING $597!!! What the hell... I am 22 and these are my violations.
Violation/Ticket Speed 11-15 over limit 06/21/2006 ME
Violation/Ticket Failure to stop at stop sign & yld r.o.w. 03/22/2006 ME
Violation/Ticket Fail to stop at steady red signal light 01/24/2006 ME
Violation/Ticket Speed 16-20 over limit 05/23/2007 ME
Is my driving record SO bad thats why the EVO insurance is rediculous? This is the car I want but hell I don't know if it would possibly fluctuation between insurance agencies... or if I should trust the progressive "Lancer" thing then I get into an accident and they don't cover the parts...
But if my record was SOOO bad then why the hell was an "SVT Cobra" only $287.00 per month.
Why is this crap so different?

On the bright side, you only have .65 saved up for an evo. By the time you buy one you'll be able to insure it as a classic and get a senior's discount.
Keep making these awesome threads. They're fun to read!
I have USAA and love'em like family. They insure my EVO, Z06, my wifes Acura and all the properties I own.
I have full coverage on the EVO & Z06 (comp & collision), w/$500.00 deductable, and well above the state min. for med & damages. All together I only pay $177.00/mo. It was $141.00/mo for just the EVO... only an additional $36.00/mo for the Z06 since its a 'pleasure' vehicle... can't beat USAA.
I'm a little older then you, and haven't received a moving violation in quite some time, so that might be some of the difference. Just keep driving safe on the streets and keep the horseplay for the track and your rates should drop in time.

I'm insured with progressive for a little less than 100 a month. I signed up online and like everyone is saying, they do not have the EVO listed as an option so you get quoted for a lancer. Even after all the paperwork went through and I was insured with the correct VIN of my EVO, and even after I specifically stated in the comments section that my car was a Lancer Evolution, not a lancer, I'm still paying the same price as for a lancer. It even says Evolution on my insurance card.
Before I was insured with GEICO and for the first 6 months they made the same mistake. When they caught their mistake my insurance doubled. I'm dreading the day that Progressive figures it out too.
Do you guys think that there's a chance Progressive might deny a claim if I have to make one because of this? They do after all have the correct VIN and the car make is correct on my insurance card.

Progressive will verify the vin before issuing the the policy. Then they will assign the higher vehicle symbol for the evo vs. the Lancer.
Insurance Co's dont look at the violations, they look at the points. You have 8 points, within 2 years and your 22yrs old. Frequency is the key. Also a company like Progressive will re- underwrite a policy each 6 months to check MVR's and clue reports for activity.

I have Progressive and they do check the VIN. I am listed as a "Lancer Evolution AWD". Also they do re-underwrite every 6 months. I just renewed my policy and it dropped 40 bucks because my 103 in a 75 ticket just dropped off. *Thank God* I have since slowed it down and kept a clean record.
I think my Evo is $140 a year more to insure than my 350Z was. But hey the Evo's a high profile car and a lot of people drive them like morons. I feel great that I only pay $145 a month for full coverage on both of my cars. It helps that I get a multicar discount, I have no tickets and I'm 28.
the evo's not any more than any other car.... Refer back to my post # 7
Theyre going to get you no matter what and blame it cause its an evo... When i called for other cars they had an excuse for every single car why its more expensive...
I did a quote on a civic for fun and it was 350 less a year... bull****.....
