Why No Mitsubishi EVO car commercial ?
Although the "car sells-out"; it would benefit Mitsu in the long run. Also as in part of 4G63 4EVR mention, it would be good for a little publicity for Evo, or 'Winged' type 'Hater' to bewared these cars are manufactured as is.
Here's what I don't get about the car ad industry: You talk about product placement, its everywhere, especially for higher end things (i.e. no ads for Shelby GT500 but what cool car does Will Smith drive in I Am Legend?) But why not get FREE product placement by putting them in your own commercials? Honda thus far is the only company I've seen throw an S2000 in the background or near the end or something of a commercial.
For example: Take the old Eclipse commercial when it first came out, the one where it drives up and chases off a bunch of cars... At the end it goes into a parking lot and scares away all the cars there... Then its a shot of the car, and the commercial ends... Add two seconds, have an Evo drive up, and scare off the Eclipse, blam, instant free product placement. You didnt' spend millions advertising JUST the Evo when most people who would buy one know about them, but you got it out there that you sell a tougher car than the tough one from the commercial.
I take back the Honda only comment too, I totally forgot the Cobalt commercials with the kickball... And the Z06 scares them off
Yay for Chevy for doing it too...
But yeah, basically they don't do it much because its like Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, etc, why advertise something that sells itself? (Course, if thats the case Porsche should advertise the Boxster more... poor guys are losing money on the Boxster last I checked)

they only advertise to the masses when its a product for the masses. hope that hit it right on the dot for u. as others said mitsu is making the evo 10 slightly less of a nitch market. i dont know if TV ads will be still necessary but they can push in another movie or possibly mag. adds.
people that want an evo, know what it is...
this car is only aimed toward a certain crowd, and everyone in that crowd knows what an evo is....
seriously how many people do you know, that arent into racing and not into modding cars, that would want to spend 36g on a car thats less luxurious then a freaking hyundai

today has been a day of really funny quotes. I only have so much room in my signature guys! Cut it out! They should make that the advertisement: "Less luxurious than a freaking Hyundai, more than 30k dollars, buy it today!"
Do you have any idea how much it costs to produce a commercial and how much it costs for 30 seconds of TV time?
Why use your resources to advertise a care that already sells when they could advertise a car that appeals to more people and doesn't
Chrysler a few years back was spending a BILLION dollars on media between Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep.

There was a US ad...I only saw it once or twice...someone else has pointed it out here...so there was a commercial..very limited in scope , just like its audience..They might have to build a few more if they advertised!
God I hope mitsubishi doesn't put out any future TV evo ads. One of the many reasons why I bought my evo is how rare it is (at least around here). Advertising is going to create even more demand, which means more production, which also means not so rare of a car.
They dont advertise LV bags...yet its the biggest selling bags on the market
No ad for gears of war for xbox 360, yet its the best selling game for xbox
No ad for any high end parts....but for some reason they dont seem to have enough inentory
No ad's for EVO but yet it a really good seller

They do the same thing for sportbikes like mine a RC51, they never made any commercials for it but they make them for the CBR 600 and CBR 1000, so take it as a grain of salt and move on.
They did the same thing for the Cyclone and typhoon, I never heard of them until like 96' or 97' but they were made for 2 yrs 91-92. Small niche market to us gear heads

I am not going to try to prove that it would benefit Mitsu in terms of economics to have commercials, but Mitsu doesnt seem to be a leading car maker in the US. The EVO is a leading car in some respects. EVO sales aside, I would think Mitsu would be proud enough of the beast of a street car to let people know what it is. They need to show the US what they are made of.
What I am getting at is that they should let people know the engineering they put into their cars even if they don't put the same amount of engineering into the other Mitsu cars. But yes, the costs are probably rediculous for a 30 second commercial. Not going to disagree with that!
I do sort of disagree that the car sells itself. Aren't there a few EVOs still on dealer lots from 06? I just got mine this summer. its about a 2 year old car. It does sell very well for the quantities they made but if they tripled their production, I would have a hard time believing that there would be the same numbers still around on lots.
They sell well, probably why dealers don't need to give test drives, but they sell well within the "cult." Not too well outside. Again it comes down to the advantage that you don't have to wave to 10 other EVOs on the way to the store.
Anyhow I am in no way a marketing genius or have any clue on marketing but in my field, in controls engineering, reputation is huge (as compared to advertising)... anyone hear of Allen Bradley?
I love this thread, I have always thought about this and its nice to see the different ideas on why there is a lack of advertising for the EVOs.
