Question Damaged Compressor Blades... + project pics

Well during my clutch replacement I find this...

So i'm guessing the previous owner ran it without a filter and it sucked up something it didn't like

Now my question is what do you think i should do..
Can i just smooth out the edges and will this really effect me that much?
It never gave me any problems or signs that something was wrong

The turbo is currently off the car as it started out as a clutch job i ended up blasting the mani/hot side/O2 and coating them

It's a stock turbo off of a Evo VI TME RS and i've swapped the stock O2 for an Evo 9 O2 (stock was smaller)

Here are some of my project pics..

after blasting it..

and coating it.. I used the TurboX - http://www.techlinecoatings.com/Exhaust.htm

Before throwing it in the bin I would try and track down a new compressor wheel, replace the bearings and get the whole thing balanced and see how that goes.

Looks good. I also used techline ceramic coating on the mani, hotside and o2 housing. I would have recommended upgrading to the ebay o2 housing though. Good luck with the project.

That wheel is not repairable. I'm sure at high boost that thing is wobbling like a ****. You can buy a new balanced wheel from gpopshop for a pretty good price. Depending on how many miles you have on it, you could get a rebuild kit too.

That's more what i'm wanting to hear, not really looking for an upgrade as this turbo is plenty much for the 2500 lbs it has to move around. I'll see if i can't track down a repair/replace kit for it.
Thanks for all the replys

Yea that would have worked but i wasn't even going to upgrade it until i found out that an ams dp wouldn't fit.. so this has to be a nice $20 upgrade

i would just do an upgrade if you can, if not find a used oem turbo. it seems just that, that the previous owner ran it with the filter off

I disagree with everyones opinion that this wheel is bad. I have used wheels that looked worse. run a file over the edges to take the high spots off. After that you have to remove material on the opposing blade form the one with a chip. Basically if you remove 3/100ths of a gram from two opposing blades you will not be throwing the balance off. I have done this with many turbos and have had no problem with shortened life. I have also seen turbos like this (damage wise) that were used for 20,000 miles and came off the car still tight and usable. As far as power loss is concerned there will be none. 99.+% of blade mass is still there.

I can post pics too. I have three here right now that have blade damage and lots of miles.

One thing i am worried about is the cost to replace a titanium compressor blade..

I did a quick test only pushing about 90 psi over the exhaust turbine and watching the compressor blade. Seemed to spin smoothly with absolutely no wobble or play

I'll try and get the tool to take off the ring holding the compressor housing on it tomorrow and inspect more..
