Exhaust manifold install question...
Im putting in an aftermarket exhaust manifold and WITHOUT taking out the downpipe can anyone tell me EXACTLY where to wedge the turbo between itself and the block to get the clearance to remove the manifold? Im trying to not break any hard lines or anything. If anyone has done this let me know if its worth the extra time just to go underneath and take out the undertray DP, etc....thanks in advance
You HAVE to disconnect the downpipe and the bracket that supports the o2 housing to get enough clearance. With that removed there should be just enough clearance to get it off.

Alrighty then thanks for the info. Some of the info you get is so vague. People are saying it can be done without the DP removal. Thanks

i have done this many times. reversable box end wrenches with swivel heads will make this very easy.
disconnect the oil line from the engine going into the turbo.(top one)
disconnect the bolts holding the downpipe and the cat along with the hangers.
with all the manifold bolts removed, you can have some play and should be able to push down the whole thing to clear the turbo hotside area.

I took me 15-20 min to remove my under tray and unbolt the dp and bracket? Its not like its hard to do....
I just did this install last weekend. Then you have all the play in the world and aren't breaking good factory seals on oil lines or messing with any of that.

just watch your oil return line and coolant lines on your turbo. and for the undertray take it off. if will safe you hassle in the long run. hate to get stuck on the side of the road with a blown IC pipe and cant get to it cause of the undertray. thats just a small example...............
i wouldnt see why you should disconnect the turbo from the o2 housing and downpipe anyway.. just unbolt the manifold from the hotside and lift up. extra pair of hands would be nice but have fun though............laters

You could just remove the two studs at the front (radiator side) adn not have to take anything loose under the car.
I ended up having to pull those two studs when I did my hotside and 02 housing. If all you are doing is the manifold.. get a stud puller set and remove the two front studs and replace them with same bolts used for the rear two (engine side). You can get the bolts from mitsu.
