looking for advice

So i brought my evo to Ny from Hawaii. When picking it up from the shipping place i realized i had no heat. So drove from virginia to ny with no heat in low 30 degree weather. So i then took the car to a shop where a friend works at and he is now telling me that my head gasket is blown. But i know a little about cars and i am not smoking or losing any oil or anti freeze. So any idea what it could be? is there a chance i wouldnt have a thermostat in it? i am so lost.

I would go with thermostat also, after that drive what was your water temp at? If it wasn't at OT after that long of a drive then it's most likely the thermostat.

its definitely NOT the head gasket and if your friend works a shop he needs to be fired and that shop needs to go thru a bit more detailed application process.

it is originally from HI. and he said he did some sort of pressure test and it went to 22-23PSI. not quite sure what test it was he did. my temps after that drive were all fine. i drove for 9 hours straight except for gas and everything was normal. no smells or anything. is there a test to see if it is a thermostat?

normally you will overheat if your thermostat is bad, but you could have possibly because of weather gotten lucky.

He pressurized your cooling system , which is what you can do when you suspect a BHG. Sounds like he found a breach. If your thermostat was stuck open it would just take longer for you (and your motor) to heat up. You can throw it in some hot water to see if it works. You'll need to have the water at the temp the thermostat opens. Depending on where the gasket breached, it is possible that coolant won't go into the cylinders or the oil. You know your buddy better than all of us. If you trust him, have him fix it. If you don't, take it to someone else. If you neglect a BHG, it can get really expensive in a hurry.

did he himself tell you that you had a blown head gasket or did the shop tell him to say that? If he is trying to pull a fast one he is a bad friend who is trying to screw you out of a lot of money saying he is gonna change the headgasket compared to the cost of changing a thermostat. Check your friend.
