bumper/lip damage: to claim or not?
#16
not worth it. you get a CF replica for around $300 or so, and prob a used OEM lip for $100 off some member. definately not worth it. I only claimed my lip once, and it was cause of road construction and I filed it with the contracting company not my own insurance.
either way, its not going to be much over $250, so you'll be paying most of it, and your insurance will have your claim on record. If your whole front end was gone... that would be a different story, or at least a hood which is $800 or so

I wouldn't bother with a claim unless you know for a fact that there is more damage than just the front bumper and lip. It may be cheaper to do it yourself. I had a similar incident where I ripped off my front lip and put a 1.5" crack on the bottom of my front bumper. I was going to file a claim, but I ended up picking up a silver bumper/lip for $150 locally and am going to get it painted. So in the end, it'll end up costing me around $400-500 total to repair the damage. It kinda sucks that every incident in NM is at-fault though. The way I see it is that it's better to spend the extra $250 or so because you will end up paying the $250 in the long run through a hike on your insurance rates. good luck.

I have had a few claims against my insurance (including a totalled car) and my rates have always gone down. I personally think you pay for insurance (a lot for most people) so why not use it for what its there for. Just my .02. Who is your provider?
