Need Help on...

So hater/s decided to break the shorty antenna off my car and did a very good job! Not only did they take the antenna away, they also took the threaded part of the base (the part that sticks to the roof) where the antenna is screwed to it. Looks like the whole base is broken. Can't determine how bad it is in the inside though as I can't check it with the vortex generator on the car.

Now I need help on how to remove the vortex generator. I've searched but only found installation pics without step by step instructions. I tried doing it but it looks like I'm gonna mess up the paint if I continue on prying the vortex generator off. I would appreciate it if somebody can post a step by step instructions on how to do it the right way.

Info on where to purchase the part that sticks to the roof will be appreciated as well. Any ideas on how much parts and installation of the base would cost me?

Thanks in advance.

it's much too cold right now, but if you can do this indoors somewhere, a heat gun or hair dryer will help you alot. Just warm up the whole VG so the double sided tape warms up a bit then pull it off, I wouldn't use a flat head, try some fishing line or dental floss instead. This is the same concept used for debadging the trunk. Hope this helps.

gee, thanks!

Would pulling the VG not do any damage to the mouldings that hold both sides of the VG?

just go to any hardware store and buy some good double sided tape. the two strips on both sides of the car are what actually keeps the vortex down

^^^ I already have 3M automotive double sided tape. Just wondering if pulling the VG off would not damage the the rubber strips that hold the VG down. I thought those strips have to be removed first. That's one thing I don't know how to do.

I don't own a VG (yet LOL) but from what I know about aftermarket VG's they tuck under the moldings, not too sure about the OEM ones, but if I can remember there's nothing tucked under there, but I can be wrong, I'm sure pulling the moldings off when taking the VG off wouldn't damage it.

One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to take the moldings off. It really makes sense to do that first but I don't have any clue as to which end of the molding should I start to take off first. I honestly don't have any idea how the clips in the inside of the moldings look like and how they hold on to the car. Should I just pry on the moldings and pull it or are there other techniques on how to do that without scratching or breaking something?

Thanks for your replies?

Well they're probably held down by clips that run along from front to back. Slowly pop off the rear end first and keep going until you have enough clearance to remove the VG.

rush63, have you had any luck with this removal. I did the exact same thing to my antenna base while trying to remove a iced over car cover. pulled the threading out with the antenna too. I went to the mitsubishi dealer and a new base goes for $116 !!! I want to get the VG off and fix this but i really don't want to risk chipping or scratching the paint in the process.

No, I didn't have luck with this removal. Got the base from mitsuparts.net for $88.58 last month but have not installed it yet since the VG is still on the car.

holler mcdollar, I'd appreciate it if you could post the steps on removing the VG starting with the removal of the moldings.

Thanks.

Edit: You need the antenna base. Part # is MR973540.
