Boost tapering more than normal?

Hi all,

Just purchased an '03 evo with 33k miles no mods besides a blitz turbotimer/boost gauge

The cars feels great low to mid range but quickly tapers to about 1bar, only about 14.5psi(the gauge reads hkpa/bar) This seems low to me. If i shift WOT from 3rd to 4th the boost just holds at 14.5 in 4th never reaching 19. If i roll on in 3rd or 4th itll hit 19 then VERY quickly drop to 1bar.

I searched the archives and it seems 16 is the norm. Should i be concerned about this?

thanks for any help

Check for any small boost leaks. but you shouldn't be too concerned, just get a mbc, filter, tbe,fp and a tune and dont worry about it.

It's called boost taper. The reason why you see less when shifting at WOT is because we hit peak boost at lower rpms (3400-3800), and then it tapers constantly from there until you let off. So, if you think rationally, when you rap through the gears (like drag racing), you're never below 5000-5500rpm, which is almost 2000rpm worth of boost taper.

Yea Im aware its called boost taper thats why i named the thread boost tapering off

Anyways i just thought 14psi was kinda low it seems the norm for evo8's is to taper to 16's....I guess i wont worry about it too much, it spools up real quick. Thanks for the replies.
