Evo vs. Telephone Pole. I am ok, car isn't so lucky.

I never checked the tires to make sure they were put on the right direction, it was done by a large nationwide chain. Those were my winter tires to drive the car if I needed to over the winter. I usually put the car on jackstands over the winter, and work on it in the garage. Again, thanks for the kind words.

Holy crap - it sounds like you were extremely lucky to not have the thing turn into a fireball! I'm also happy to hear the pole didn't slice further into the passenger compartment. Glad you're ok. You were wise to keep it from sliding sideways into the pole: not only is that dangerous, but the Evo has a low side impact crash rating to begin with.
The backwards mounted tires could definitely cause traction issues (we tried some at the track in the dry and it was dangerous at track speeds), but the only way I can see them causing you to veer right so quickly would be to hit a fairly long stretch of standing water. Otherwise, it sounds like suspension failure somewhere.

Glad to hear you're OK, Kev.
You must have an awesome guardian angel: looks like the pole almost directly hit - and triggered - the airbag sensor (near the fender) a mere fraction of a second before severing the power cables.
Hope to see ya in another Evo ...soon! (in time for WWIV ??)
