Spark Plug Change Problem
Hi everyone,
I changed my spark plugs out this evening (05 EVO, 30k mi), but when I turned the car back on it sputtered and misfired. I have pulled the plugs and put them back 3 or 4 times checking everything I could think of - gap, connection of plug wires, how much I tightened the plugs down with the torque wrench.
The coil packs don't appear to have any bent prongs or any problems. I even thought I might have swapped the two coil packs, but they look identical. I went ahead and swapped them anyway but no difference.
I think the first cylinder is the one that isn't firing since the new spark plug was covered in dark fluid that smelled like gas. I put the old plug back in its place and still no difference.
The plug gap is .028" and is the same as the plugs I pulled out which are the exact same plugs (NGK BR8ES). The car was running great, it was just time to change them.
EDIT: Found the problem, the wires from the odd to the even coil packs were swapped!
Thanks,
Adam
