Well... for me... I really really don't like how the EVO VIII looks. Personally, I was so pissed at for making such a beautiful car blend into every other crappy American sedan. I was further pissed off when put photo's of the EVO VII Rally car in the pamflet for the EVO VIII. I was so pissed that I even looked at WRX's.

Other then that minor fact I did seriously considered getting a EVO VIII. But the Dealership around Seattle were jacking up the prices and I really didn't want to pay 15K over MSRP for a car that I thought wasn't worthy of the EVO legacy. All of the smaller dealers just weren't getting any EVO's. Plus, the few 8's that made it out here had to be purchased with a 1 year service contract that all work would be done at the dealer you purchased the car. This included oil changes and tire rotation. So I would be seeing the people every 3,000 miles or less. Personally, I don't trust dealers... I feel like I need to shower after talking to them.

I actually don't mind the look of the normal Lancer but they screwed up that car by not having All wheel drive. Why the hell does a 4 cylinder low horse power car only get 22-26 MPG? My g/f car has the same horse power and she gets 38-44 MPG? So yet again, screwed up that car in my opinion. Plus, I really do need all-wheel drive.

Modding the EVO VIII isn't something I am interested in doing. I have owned a Jeep Wrangler for many years now, and I was big into the off-roading. And the first thing I learned was that Custom word makes your car more expensive to insure and lower the resale value. So getting the front end of an EVO VII and putting it on a VIII wouldn't work for me. Because after getting it color matched I can guarantee I would hit something or get hit by something. Modding is cool but I just don’t have the time these days.

Getting an EVO VII is really a dream for me. It's a car that I think is beautiful and even if I have to wait 25 year to get one I will get on when I am 52. If I was going to get a car that made sense I would get the Hyundai Accent that my girl friend has. It's small, inexpensive, and has a 10 year warrantee. Either way, I and many others here are hopeful that the car will be available for importation this year or next. So for now all we can do is cross our fingers.

So there is my long answer... which I am betting no one will ever read. I think for now I am just going to get a sailboat and sail around until the EVO VII are legal. Maybe my dad will sell me his '69 280SL Mercedes-Benz, I just need to ship it 2,900 miles.

There are a few Evo 7's rolling around the streets of the US. But I can guarantee that none of them are registered 100% legally. I'd also like to see the pics of the VIN plates on these cars, vs their registration docs....because people are likely registering their Evo's with the paperwork and vin tags from Regular Lancers. And while it's illegal, that practice is more prevalent that anyone could imagine in the old imported cars and gray import market industry.

And while it is a victimless crime....If an insurance Co or the police ever got involved (like in an accident or a traffic stop), you could;

1. lose your car
2. lose any insurance payout you expected
3. you could be slapped with insurance fraud charges
4. you could lose your insurability
5. spend time in jail

It's just not worth it to import a car till it is 100% federalized.

SC~
