Bye Bye Turbo

Well yesterday (1-22-08) I found out that my turbo is pretty much gone and I felt like it was happening but I didnt want to face it . For those of you who are not familiar with me I have a 03 TB Evo with the following mods: Evo 9 turbo, HKS 272s, 880 injectors, LICP and UICP, Buschur Racing Race FMIC, Walbro 255, Perrin TB, Hallman MBC, Ported and Coated housing, and a Jestr custom tune and running only 19 psi. Well I dont drive the car as a DD, just every now and then I drive it. I noticed that my turbo sounded different when spooling, the blow off sounded different, and it was making this funky noise when driving and cutting it off. So I took the car to my mechanic and he confirmed that my oil return line was leaking and the shaft was the one making all this noise. Now when I had the turbo installed my car had 58k on it and the 9 turbo had 8,600 according to the guy I brought it from. The car now has 61k on it so Im really confused how a turbo with 11,600 miles on it goes( I put 3k on it). I changed the oil in it and it ran factory boost, I mean we all know that 19 psi for a 9 turbo is nothing. So now that my turbo is gone I plan on doing a decent upgrade. Im planning on a Buschur 3065 turbo, I have done lots of research on it and it does what im looking for and people that have one seem to love it. Sorry for the thread its just a sad day

Well your turbo spins at an incredible rate, if you had an oil leak and the shaft was not properly lubed, it's not surprising the turbo died.

Good luck with the 3065.

sorry to here that your turbo went. Who installed your IX turbo? You might want to go to a different shop, that is unless you installed it yourself.

what do you mean it sounded different when spooling. I wouldnt imagine my ix turbo is going out already, but it seems to spool alot louder nowadays. It could also just be me making things up in my head, i seam to be ocd about any change in my cars behavior.

anyway, sorry to hear that it went, im sure you will love the 3065. good luck

And about the sound......it just just sounded different and when it would blow off it would sound fainter. The sound that it makes when shutting it off is like a vibration and rattling sound...if that makes sense

when my little T25 was going out on my gst, it definitely sounded different. For those who think thiers sounds different and are scared, go take the intake off and see if there is any shaft play.

If your turbo is going out then it should smoke a little. Start your car, pop the hood, and let it idle for a bit. The turbo should show some signs that its going out.... although it could be a great excuse to upgrade to a green. BTW, sent you a pm
