This should give an idea of actual rotor size.
EVO VII GSR

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/r...-rearwheel.jpg

Mitsubishi claims 2 sets of numbers that I have read.
17" front brakes and 16" rear brakes. (in the pdf file)
14" front brakes and 12" rear brakes. (I have seen this number posted with the car at shows)

Where Mitsubishi gets these numbers...I have no idea!

I have read the theory that the 17" & 16" numbers are the maximum wheel size that will fit over the brakes. Actually, the rear rotor is so small in diameter you could probably run a 13" rear wheel before having problems. The front wheel you could run a 16" I would expect.

I sit back and read what people say in the rumor forum and take everything with a grain of salt. On the other hand, when people start getting really mislead...like thinking the EVO is gonna come here with 17" or even a 14" front brake rotor....I step in and lend a helping hand. No, I dont own an EVO, but I have been working on performance Mitsubishis for several years. I do a lot of work with larger dia rotor conversions as a performance upgrade.

I kind of wish the the GSR came with larger rotors, but at least it has vented rear rotors. The 'Brembo' factor is pretty cool as well. I have read EVO VII owners complain of warped rotors. On the other hand, that is a common complaint for many different types of sport cars.

Show me some proof and I'll believe the 12.1" and 9.5". Until then I'll go with what I've seen on many occasions.

Any Evo 7 owners out there want to go out and measure their stock rotors? Thanks

November 2001 Sport Compact Car
Page 76
EVO VI

Maybe the VI and VII have slightly different rotors? If you looked at the pics I put on the link it should be quite obvious that that is no 14" and 12" rotor.

But whatever...

SCC shows the size for the Evo 6 and not the 7. But brake size did not change from 6 to 7, so I think you're right Turbo442. Thanks for clearing it up.

12.1 in. discs up front with 4 piston caliper Brembos (plus 2 piston in back) is good enough for me.

Hey, all I gotta say is that a few of us are going by what the .pdf said. Verbatim it said "17-inch ventilated disc". Now if that is infact the rotor disk (which i must admit seems highly unlikely) or the wheel size that covers it, remains to be seen. I do agree though, if perhaps we could get some real evo owners to shed some light on this topic, it would be a great help!

heres one for everyone! (finally a icon for me!)

Hehehehe, good looking out Claudius! Glad to see I wasn't dreaming that or anything. Now 12.6, that sounds a bit more reasonable. 17"....are we trying to stop a 747 here? But once again, thanks Claudius for confirmed input!

heheh yeah i looked at all the international official Mitsu sites and in HK, JAPAN, UK they all have 17 and 16 put down... heheh lets all sue them for new Evos.... heheheh that'll be sweet...
yeah logically thinking its kinda dumb for me to think there would have been 17 inch rotors, but maybe its just a different system of measuring, coz they won't send out typos to all their international branches and not correct them like still, after 18 months.. oh well, i'm all with the lawsuit

I think their method of measuring differs from ours. I guess they don't use the first five inches or so of the ruler.

Ok....jpn must use a different method of measurment or something. Was just messing around on the site, and looked under concept cars. For the EVO it has 14" and 12" for the front and back brakes. Either they measure things different in jpn, or just needs to get their $hit strait.

Maybe Mitsubishi measures from the center of the wheel to the outside of the caliper!!!

17" brakes and 16" brakes refer to the smallest wheel size that fits those brakes.
Subaru also uses nomenclature like that.

The actual size of the brakes are approximately
Front - 13.5"
Rear - 12.4"

The rear brakes are actually much bigger than the front brakes of most cars.

Thanks for clearing this up for everyone...

Problem is your approximate brake size is way off!
I will post a pic of the rear wheel/brake again:
