I have the deka etx14 which is pretty much the same as the braile mini racing battery.. i never had any problem with it until now... i went on a 2 month trip and came back noticed the battery was dead...i tried jump starting it and car started right up...voltage at the battery was at 14.5V+..i left it running and drove around for atleast 45minutes to make sure its charged...the moment i turn my car off...the battery dies again...i get about 0.5 volts instantly out of the mini battery...any ideas?? the battery is shot???

How old is it? Might need to drive around for more than 45 mins. I drive my Evo once or twice a week and it has a mini battery. It sits in an uninsulated garage and it is tough to crank when I go for the weekly drive, but it fires up everytime. The battery is almost 2 years old (Odyssey) but still seems to work great.

Wow, only 4 months old? My battery sat for 2-3 months over the summer and it still cranked the car up.

I'd go on a long trip or put on a trickle charger to fully charge the battery. Could also go to Autozone and see if your alternator is putting out the proper amperage.

lots of threads of battery relocation lately...i'd recommend that...you're going to have nothing but problems, especially in the cold.

Mine drained completely when I let the car sit for about a month. Not cold weather or anything...just that you can't leave these sitting AND connected. So I've got mine disconnected right now since it's cold, and I'm using my Blazer. When I daily drive her...no problems.

Though I've never been stranded ::knocks on wood:: I don't like the odds right about now after all these threads have been popping up.

Where do you guys get your relocation kits from?

summit racing luckily for me they are 5 miles down the road from me so i dont have to have crap shipped!

1 gauge power and ground kit cost me about 70 and i just picked up a tray instead of doing a box, maybe ill do a box later. Very easy thing to do and, imo, the best thing ive done.

yea, I saw the kit there on Summit. I would probably do the box if I did it, I wonder how they go about venting it...because I wouldn't want all the battery fumes just sittin' in there.

Did you mount yours on one side or the other or right in the center behind the seats?

i dont think venting is a huge issue, especially if you go with dry cell. To vent, they have a tube that comes from the box..not sure where you route it since i didnt do it obviously, but they have a solution for what you want.

i mounted mine on the passenger side, next to the winshield washer fluid resevoir.

My mini battery dies every winter. Just letting the Alt try to recharge it is not the same as a slow trickle type charge. The alt is designed to maintain a charge in the battery not to recharge a weak battery. there is also a state or health test for a battery not just a state of charge. Also real quick if you over tighten the cables it can damage the seal at the terminals and cause the battery to leak vapors causing a dead cell in side the battery, AMS has a tightening spec on the webpage on how tight to make them.

u need a battery tender (got it on ebay for $45ish shipped) if you're going to leave it for more than a week or two in the winter. I drive every day or at most i go a 2 days without driving, and my braille (deka) mini batt cranks like a champ.

I think the tightening spec on the website is for the terminal STUDS, not the cables...
