My story between an Evo IX and 350Z

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and a buddy of mine recommended this website for my forum questions. So here is my dilemma.

I currently own a '05 Nissan 350Z Enthusiast manual, with roughly 19900 miles on it. I've babied it since day one. I currently pay roughly $460 a month and i have about 4 more years left on the payments. (So I owe roughly $14,700 if I pay in full right now.)

I've been contemplating if I should get an Evo IX. My buddy drives a Subaru WRX and he said the Evo is an extremely nice car. So I went to the dealer and found a White '06 Evo IX GSR with about 11,500 miles on it. It looks beautiful inside and out. Very clean. The guy is asking for roughly $27,800. I've been thinking really hard and I can't seem to come to a conclusion on what to do.

Also, the dealer is willing to pay off my car and give me around $2800 for it. That will just about cover the taxes. So in other words, if I do plan to switch my car, I will be losing about $13,000.

I know this is an Evo forum and I will probably get biased opinions but putting all bias aside, my question is, what do you guys think? Do you think it will be worth it? What would you do if you were in my situation?

Any opinion will be appreciated. Thanks!

350z are nice cars! I had a 240sx and now that I have the Evo I couldn't go back to a 2 door unless it was a secondary car. Shop around though and you should get a better deal. 350z hold their value very well, so you should be able to get a good bit more for it.

Sell the car privately and then pay off the loan you have and use the rest for the evo if you really wanna go that route.

Dude this is a financial question.... Its something that you need to deal with personally...

If you don't have anything else to pay for like housing, or children, family, then go for it. If you do have all that then you better watch what you do. If money isn't a factor then get the EVO cause it will provide more fun, thats my oppinion

I personally owned both cars, and the evo 9 is definitely more geared towards the hardcore performance enthusiast.

i work at a nissan dealership and work with 350z's everyday. im really not a big fan of the car. to me the suspension seems soft, the engine doesnt feel like it has enough power. just an all around soft car. you'll love the EVO, go for it!

wow... I was just going to tell you to drop the idea all together. But I guess it could just be a bad deal from this particular dealership. Definitely shop around. Fairladies hold their value pretty well and there is no reason you should walk away from a trade on an RS with a 13k dollar debt. And be careful of the 'used' Evo you purchase -if at all. The millage may be a low number, but it may all be in the form of abuse. Good luck!

Oh and btw, you should DEFINITELY sell the 350z as a private seller if you decide to get rid of it. Oh and one last thing, as I'm sure you've already noticed, you'll be downgrading interior when you go to an evo from a Fairlady; and as for all the 'negatives' that have been said about your car, all those can be tweaked and tuned. I really think Fairladies come out of the factory geared to a more subtle demographic. You don't have a bad car. Not in the slightest bit. Just my opinion though. Again, good luck with everything.

I sold my 2000 Supercharged V6 Eclipse and my 1999 GS-T Eclipse to get my Evo IX.
Lost about $30,000+ in both cars and there Mod & Up-grades.
The Evo IX was woth it!!!

I would say if you can Sell it yourself, do that first because what they're giving you for your 350Z is around $18K. At that milage, you can probably sell it for at least over $22K. I test drove one before I got my Evo and it drives nice except it's only made for three seasons and I needed a car for 4 seasons So my saying is either get a better deal or sell it first then look for one. Good luck

Please define 'babying' your 350z. If that means driving easy, don't even think about getting the Evo. No point to drive a car with a crappier interior, rides worse, etc, when all you're going to do is drive easy.

The dealer is killing you on the trade in value man. Evo is well worth it, but taking that much loss in trade in would make me think twice.
