Tough sales month for Mitsu

Sales are in for all auto manufacturers and January wasn't as bad as many predicted since the economy is in the crapper. The industry as a whole was only down 2.9%.

Mitsubishi, on the other hand, had it especially tough despite the Evo X beginning to arrive. Mitsu had the worst year-over-year sales decrease of ANY brand...-23%.

Not a good day in Cypress, Ca.

EDIT: IMAGE IS REPOSTED SO IT WILL BE EASIER TO READ

January is usually a pretty bad month for car sales. Right after christmas, before tax refunds, and salty and cold. Nobody wants to buy a car then.

Hopefully the new lancer will pick things up, ive seen a ton of them on the roads.

edit: ps, try to save as jpg next time.

Agreed about January being a bad sales month historically. But the 23% decline is versus January 2007 sales. It's apples to apples and January 2008 was much worse.

Plus, the industry was only down 2.9% overall while Mitsu was still down 23%. Mitsu had the worst decline of any brand.

I put the image up at work and .jpg file was above the 100mb file size. I'll try to repost it with a better resolution now that I'm home.

Mitsubishi better milk the Evo X for all that it's worth. Outside of the Evo/Lancer, Mitsu doesn't have too much to work with.

from the chart it looks like the luxury cars (like luxury homes) are still selling well regardless of economy. highend cars sell best during recessions...

Why would the launch of the X have any bearing on their sales figures? The rest of their cars are garbage (minus the lancer.)

Hopefully it will be better in the future. With all these interesting concepts coming out (Ralliart, Lancer Sportback or Concept-RA, etc..), at least Mitsu is moving into the right direction of exciting adn fresh products. The Wrx seriously needs a challenger in the cheap 4wd turbo market, and if all things go well the Ralliart should be worthy.
