EGT Install.

Looking to install my ProSport EGT, and the probe obviously goes in the exhaust manifold...but question is, do I take it off? or can I leave the car running, unbolt the dp and let the little chunks fly out?

you can leave everything on the car and keep the car running and tap it, just be careful so you don't get chunks going through your turbo.

You could also add a whopping 20 minutes to your install and take the manifold off.

I let the engine idle when I drilled and tapped into my header. I just did it slow so there weren't too many shavings at one time. The exhaust did a good job blowing the shavings away. I did mine approx. 20K miles ago and have no problems.

Check the link provided above for needed hardware.

Have a friend hold the revs between 2000 and 3000 as you start to go through the manifold, or else there won't be enough pressure to blow out all of the shavings.

You can also have the car cold and stick the drill bit in grease, drill a bit, take it out, clean it off, stick it in grease again, drill a bit, take it out, clean it off, stick it in grease again...You get the idea.

The easiest way by far is to just drill it while the car is running.

Also, the size of bit you need to use depends on the size of your probe. Don't forget you'll need to thread that hole once you're done drilling, so don't drill it too big or else you'll be adding some heli-coil to your manifold.

Here's a trick: Take a strong magnet and place it on the manifold next to where you plan to drill.

After drilling the magnet will collect the shavings.

I did this in conjunction while the car was running.

Don't forget goggles and something to cover your mouth!

Takes me about 25-30 min to take the manifold off now.... then again, I replaced the studs in the turbine inlet with bolts so I just take off the nuts and bolts and slide the manifold forward and off. Super easy.

Did anyone think about those shavings getting stuck at the cat? I haven't exactly looked down an Evo cat yet, but I would think the shavings would get stuck, no?

I would think the turbo presents more of an issue than anything else

You have got to be kidding me!

There is no way in hell anyone should tap the exhaust manifold while..
A. The car is running
or
B. The manifold is on the car

Shavings + turbo... Anybody using that squishy thing sitting up top? Obviously not. Do it right, take the manifold off and tap it then. Make sure you get all the shavings out before you reinstall.
