the 280 thing was previously a law in japan...however later this law is taken off...but mitsu and suby still hav this "gentleman agreement" around for a while....but...i think itz gone....coz....STi's are now 2.5L turbo 3xxhp instead of the 2.0L turbo 280hp as the gentleman agreement between them.....
however...mitsu still holds this quite nicely.....haha

yea the evo is very underrated...... They put down alot of whp and have low crank numbers..

then add the 40-50bhp from a tune...

The "agreement" was 280 PS, not HP. PS stands for "Pferdestärke" which is a Metric measurement of power. HP is horsepower and is a SAE measurement of power.

The exact conversion is not equal, and 280 PS is equal to about 0.9863 HP.

Although the difference is minimal, do it 280 times and you lose about 14 HP.

Also, the agreement was in reference to Japan, not America. Which is why you see alot of 280 PS in older Japanese racing games, and not in Gran Turismo.

the U.S. advertised 286hp. that agreement only applied in JAPAN.

yes,,youre right,,here you can see it
.....with the Japan-spec Evolution IX having real output of about 320 PS (316 hp/235 kW), and various versions available in other markets.....

no wonder the Japanese evo can run 12 sec 1/4 mile, and good info on the flywheel weight, I know evo has light fly wheel compare to a lot of factory car.
