Congrats on your new ride and great deal. I am looking forward to the thong pics...

The oil filter is part number MD356000 and the oil pan drain gasket is part number MD050317. The gasket is a washer that crushes when you reinstall the drain plug.

The list price on each is $7.95 for the filter and $1.25 for the gasket. My favorite dealer charged me $5 and .90c. Nice color choice. Come to the BBQ in Queens this Saturday. You will enjoy yourself and it is not that far at all. Maybe 50 miles tops.

The first two filters I got from my dealer were the 356000's. Now they say that 690116 is the correct one. My Evo came with a 356000. After making the dealer do further research, they say that the 356000 has a 'Toro' designation which they say stands for Toronto...as in Canada. The dealer says the two are identical...one with a US part # and the other a CA part#.

This is a common problem. They're not cross referenced in anyone's lists/computers at retail outfits. The one I almost got was the tall skinny one for the SOHC 4G64 Lancer motor.

Could there be a filter issue cuasing any restriction here? I just wonder if a wrong filter from a dealer during prep could lead to excessive bearing wear.

Just to further add to the confusion..

I went to mitsubishiparts.net and ordered a bunch of part # 'MD356000'. It was marked as yellow status (not in stock but "usually ships in 5-10 days").

A couple of days later, my filter shipment arrived. However the filters are stamped MD031805 as are their containing boxes. On my invoice, however they crossed through 'MD031805' and wrote 'MZ690116'. The 'MD356000' I actually ordered is not mentioned on the invoice. Going back to their site, I find that MD356000 and MD031805 have exactly the same pricing. Conversely, a part # search on their site for 'MZ690116' yields no results.

I'm assuming therefore that the MD031805 and MZ690116 are different part #s for the same exact component, which is the newer revised filter..? (It is black, and somewhat short and fat).

(a little long)

This past weekend I bought part number MD356000 to change my oil in the "G"raj at home. I drained my oil, pulled the old filter off let it set for a moment before I put my new filter on, pulled the new filter out of the box lubed the gasket put it on, poured about 4 quarts in, got in the driver seat to start her up and let everything circulate before I checked the level. After about 30 seconds of waiting I noticed my oil light was on. I immediatly turned her off and to my horror saw all 4 quarts of oil draining onto my brand new floor AHHHHH!!!! Needless to say I was pissed, the next day I had some heads at mitsubishi for giving me a messed up filter. They paid for a my oil change that very day
