Oh and the shop time attack car has almost 3000 TRACK MILES on the car. I think its safe to say its seeing more abuse then any daily driver. The transfer case is as healthy as can be.

Mine has been whining for about a month. Went to get it warrantied and they said it was my tc but then the next day said it wasn't and replaced the rear diff instead. I got the car back w the whine and a new rear diff. Its gonna go back again. I have a IX w 24000 miles in case anyone is wondering.
I can hear slight T-case whine UNDER 40mph. Exhuast, tire noise and wind noise drown it out above that. It doesn't matter the gear. It's VERY VERY faint. You have to pay attention to hear it. It still makes me paranoid though.
I'm just going to start my Shep Tcase fund even though mine hasn't gone bad yet

Well, the t-case is not relevant to the trans. I switched to a built 5spd when my 6spd broke, but I still used the stock t-case. It was another year after the trans swap that I started hearing the death whine, so I just got that fixed before race season starts. The t-case on there now is built by Shep as well as the 5spd, but both pieces that broke were stock and abused heavily.
I now am using Redline Heavy Shockproof in the t-case per Shep's recommendation.
I do. stg 1. o2, tbe, ic pipes, mbc that I hid, ecu flash.... and gauges and colored radiator hoses that don't help when I try to get warranty work done! I do however get along really well with my service advisor...
I have mitsu diaqueen, and mine sounds like an f1 car. It was recently changed with OEM fluid and had all the internal and external seals replaced. Did not help with the whine what so ever.
The whine that I have is the Death whine, meaning my t-case is shot and needs to be replaced. All evos whine, it is the Nature of the AWD system, but the Death whine is differnt and fatal. (no pun)
When you're folks t-cases initially started to whine, did it only do it when the drivetrain was not warmed up all the way? I'm starting to hear a slight whine that isn't that loud.. but only when the car is cold (engined warmed up of course).
400 bucks is to make your good tcase stronger. Once it starts whining its done. Your looking at least 1200 dollars for a new ring and pinion if thats the issue and shipping both ways. Also the OP looks like he has an 03 so he should also add the RA LSD for a few hundred bucks more. It may be better to just pay 2775 plus shipping for a new tcase with the lsd in it already.
You dont need to worry, if its going away then your fine......its when it doesnt that your F'ed
