Please Help, Shifter bent to the right

Ok BTW I know this makes my friends look like idiots and well......they are....lol....Some of my friends were being dumbasses and horseplaying in the evo. (I wasnt around). one of them got mad and pushed the other into my shifter and now it is bent to the right. heres an example. when I'm in first it looks like it should be in 3rd. I opened it up to see if anything is bent/broken and can't find anything. even went so far as to buy a B&M short shifter(paid by friends) hoping that might fix the problem and it didnt. Do you think the cables in the shift linkage could be bent/streched??? I wouldnt think so but I'm desperate to find the problem. the track will be opening up soon and even though I have a 35r I'd still get slow because not only is it bent towards the passenger side, there is also resistance going into all of the gears. anyone have any ideas???

also BTW there are no tranny issues. I'm 100% sure this is a shifter or shift linkage problem.

1. Stab each of your friends. 2. Install the new shifter and see how it feels, drives, shifts ect. If it feels normal I wouldnt worry about it. When you take it apart to install the new one looks around in there at everything else you can see. I wouldnt be too worried

well if I unhook the cables totally from the shifter and then see if it has free movement and is not limited to just the right side then it would have to be the cables that are holding it up I guess.....just thinking out loud lol

I'm doubting its your cables, if anything I'd check to make sure shift levers on the trans aren't bent at all. I also feel like something on the shifter base may have just shifted over or bent. You've checked that over meticulously for any signs of movement? Keep us posted.

you could prolly go to a mechanic or a dealership have them tell you whats up then go fix the problem. Or you could just keep spending money on stuff and seeing if it fixs. This is the first time i heard of a shifter bending but it sounds like something i do not want to deal with. GL

yeah I did take it to the local mitsubishi place and they really didnt know what was up. they really werent willing to look at it that long though. I dount the problem is the shifter links on the transmission. I just recently had my transmission rebuilt by shepherd transmission and it seems like he'd catch a problem like that. but then again maybe not since I dont know if he even had to deal with that part of the transmission for the rebuild

I guess I'm just gonna have to get out there and start messing around and see what's up good 'ol trial and error lol but I'll keep ya'll posted on what finally fixes it during the unlikely event that someone else has this problem

He has rebuilt the transmission since your friends "bent the shifter?"

Is there any odd freeplay in the shifter?
