Burning amp smell... WTF, I have no amp
OK, so on the way to work this morning I got a whiff of toasted amp (I'm sure anyone here that's either had or has a system knows what I'm talking about). Well, thing is, I don't have a system... just the garbage stock Mitsu deck and speakers. I wasn't even listening to the radio or a CD. This smell lasted for a good 20 or so minutes. After I got to work, I got out the car and tried to find where it was coming from but had no luck.
So my question is, what else could cause that smell? I'm sure it's something electrical in nature, but I'm kinda electonically challenged. Any ideas on what to check for (or if this is a common problem) would be greatly appreciated.

I thought that could've been the case as well (I always ride with the windows down), but the smell lasted for ~10 miles. I guess I'll find out when I roll home today. Thanks.

That would be one hell of a stink for 10 miles. Check all your fuses and then I'd say just get in and turn everything on and off one at a time and see if you could find what it is.

And yes, it was one hell of a stink.

The "burning amp" smell is like any other electrical burnt smell. As Red Sox suggested and check your fuses. Do a sniff check under the hood and under the dash. After that then I'd check everything that's electrical one by one and see if everything works.
