Gauge Cluster Swap

Does anyone know if you swap your gauge cluster for a different one if it still reads the correct mileage. My tac is acting goofy (rpms read about 1K under what they should) and I need to swap it. I dont want it to read an incorrect mileage on the odometer.

exactly how do youy know it is under by 1000rpm, have u logged it? Find out how off it is first. I always thought the miles were stored in the ECU, maybe i'm wrong?

95% sure It will read what ever miles are on the cluster and not what was on your car previous

I know it is about 1K under (and this is a redneck way of knowing) because before I dp would vibrate noticeably at 3800 rpm. Now it is around 2800 rpm. Also at an idle when it was cold it used to idle at about 12-1300 rpm now it hovers around 2-300 rpm when cold and at 0 rpm when warm. All I did was remove the cover and put a new faceplate on it this weekend and not it is all messed up. No clue why or how to fix it.

Good point. Because the revs seem to respond properly, but they are off by that 1000K+- rpm.

did you happen to remove the RPM needle in the process?

^ good point. I have never taken mine apart but I would imagine you can adjust your needle or the gauge somehow. Most indicators for every application (boats/airoplanes I know for sure) have a small adjustment screw on the reverse side for this type of calibration. It should only adjust the needle position though.

You may want to try the PLX gauge system that plugs directly into your OBD port and takes readings from the ECU. It's super nice.

the ECU stores all information, such as milage. Thats why its funny when people on this site by "lower milage" gauge clusters to increase their cars value. I bet they are pissed when they see it hasnt changes and they just lost 100 bucks

Mileage and cluster layout (so the motors move to 1000 RPM, Full Fuel, Hot temp, etc, correctly) is stored on a 8 pin IC chip on the back of the cluster. Nothing is stored in the ECU.

i was thinking this too too because I bought a used cluster for a TSX I had and swapped it trying to diognose a problem and realized the cluster read the other cars mileage and I was mad cause it was like 50k off lol. Anyways, upon research I discovered that most of not all cars store data in the cluster but the ECU.
